haunted Oracle with a familiar

Rules Questions

Hi all,

I'm considering a Oracle character in PFS with the haunted curse. I've had fun tinkering with ways to mitigate the standard-action retrieval time drawback (mnemonic vestments, gloves of storing, wrist sheaths, etc.) which has been a fun exercise of deciding which few items were worth having on-hand when needed.

Then, I had an idea: eldritch heritage to get a familiar. If a little companion could hand me stuff, seems like that would help. Even if the familiar was taking a standard action to retrieve my things, I imagine it wouldn't be more than a move action to take it from an offering "hand" (or paw/mouth/whathaveyou).

I couldn't find any other thread dealing with this combo though, so I'm posting here. Opinions?

Silver Crusade

Could work. Try a monkey familiar, better at fetching and carrying than many options. If you later take a the Improved Familiar feat there are many choices that have hands and wings so they can quickly flutter around picking up after you.

If you're going to be a battle mystery or other melee oracle consider the mauler familiar archetype from Familiar Folio.

Any familiar taking an active role is at some risk of course, having only half your hp. Don't skimp on CON!

It totally works. I'm doing this with my Oracle in a Reign of Winter campaign. He's life mystery, and my plan is for the Eldritch Heritage line (Arcane, of course) to make things interesting for what is otherwise a little heal-bot-ish.

I'm currently walking around with a +1 natural armor turtle in my sleeve, but it'll get much cooler when I hit level 9 (I'm 8 now) and can pick up an Improved Familiar. I'm thinking about the Cassissian Angel - the daily cast of Daylight will come in handy, perfect flying, and also has the knack of memorizing anything it sees (which we can claim to use to memorize poems/clues/whatever).

With the arcane line, you can also take the Improved version of Eldritch Heritage and end up getting some powerful wizard spells on your spell list. This should really spice things up for my half-orc life oracle. It's been a fun game and it's only going to get better.

Monkey's not a bad idea, though I was considering a hare for the initiative bonus. It's also fast, which would help delivering touch spells, especially a critically-timed Breadth of Life at higher levels.

I was also going for the elven racial archetype for wizard spells for a theurge-type vibe. An extra one might be worth it.

The Exchange

That racial archetype in one of the most OP things.
It lets you temporarily learn spells whenever you want, while remaining a spontaneous caster.
Definitely take it!

I don't think it does that.

Elven Arcana (Ex): At 2nd level, an ancient lorekeeper's mastery of elven legends and philosophy has allowed her to master one spell used by elven wizards. She selects one spell from the sorcerer/wizard spell list that is at least one level lower than the highest-level oracle spell she can cast. The ancient lorekeeper gains this as a bonus spell known. The spell is treated as one level higher than its true level for all purposes. The ancient lorekeeper may choose an additional spell at 4th, 6th, 8th, 10th, 12th, 14th, 16th, and 18th levels. This ability replaces the bonus spells she would normally gain at these levels from her chosen mystery.

You get to choose 1 wizard spell per spell level, and you get them at one spell level higher than a wizard gets them. These spells are fixed once you choose them: they replace your mystery bonus spells.

It is still a strong archetype though.
