Life Pact unconciousness

Rules Questions

Shadow Lodge

Bit of an odd case came up tonight. Party had Life Pact up from the ACG.

Life Pact:
If any target is reduced to fewer than 0 hit points, that target automatically triggers the power of the pact. The triggering target drains 1 hit point from all other targets who have at least 1 hit point and are within 30 feet of the triggering target; these hit points are applied to the triggering target as magical healing. This healing can prevent the triggering creature from dying, if the attack would cause the target’s to have an amount of negative hit points equal to its Constitution score. This healing cannot raise the triggering creature above 1 hit point; any excess hit points drained from other targets are wasted.

The fighter got dropped to -2. There were 3 other party members, so he goes up to +1 and the rest loose 1 hp each. But the fighter still passed zero in the process. Does he still drop prone? Does he drop his stuff and do all the things unconscious people do in the split second he was negative before the spell kicks in and wakes him up again?

Any ideas?

Up to your GM. I would rule that the spell prevents the deleterious effects of being knocked below 0 on the same principle that the spell can prevent death however there's no particular RAW reason either way.

The healing explicitly prevents you from dying. You do not die for a split second then come back. Therefore, I would argue the healing happens just before the actual effects of the damage received come into play, meaning, no, you do not fall prone or drop your stuff.

I am with Mpl. here.

That's what I suspected too. Unfortunately it's for PFS, so rulings can get awkward.
