Perception Rolls and Traps

How does Perception and finding traps work by RAW?

What is the maximum distance from the trap I can use my Perception skill to find it?

Do I need to use Perception for each individual 5 ft. square in this range or does one roll cover all of the area above?

1) Traps have a set Perception DC.

2) Line of sight is usually required. Distance adds +1 to the DC, for every 10 feet of distance.

3) This is, more or less, DM fiat. Requiring a separate check, for every 5ft., is needlessly pedantic, and time consuming.

Note: Actively searching requires at least a move action.

It eliminates the need to say, "I check for traps".
