Watersong Plus the spell Hardening

Rules Questions

So I have a player that believes that once water is animated using the Watersong Class feature from the Bard Racial Archetype Watersinger. That Hardening will cause the waters hardness to go up but that the hardness boost will stay the same even after the performance has ended.

Short answer no. Long answer noooooooooooooooooo. The problem is twofold. First, hardening only increases existing hardness. Second, water doesn't have hardness. While using Watersong the bard can grant it temporary hardness (you'll notice the first thing it does is give it hardness 0) but after the song ends the water no longer has hardness and Hardening can't increase something that doesn't exist. The other problem is that the water probably no longer counts as an "item" once it's water. The duration is permanent, not instantaneous, so it still has to be a valid target at all times.
