I'm really confused as to where to put my friend - new to Pathfinder and tabletop gaming in-general - on the "rogue" spectrum. His favorite fantasy tropes are the gritty Batman reboot in the Arkham games, as well as the Demon Hunter and the Wizard from Diablo 3.
What would you guys say is the best class to encompass something like this?
Second question: is there a feasible unarmed Inquisitor/Rogue-like build?

Inquisitor is probably the best class for 'Batman'. Probably.
An Inquisitor is already a hybrid of cleric and rogue. No need to multiclass. Inquisitor (like Bard) can fill a rogue-like role and is mechanically flat-out superior to Rogue.
There are lots of ways to be competent at unarmed combat. Do you mean an unarmed specialist who might choose to fight unarmed on a battlefield, where opponents had primary battlefield weapons? That sounds like a Monk or Brawler. Brawler might combine well with Inquisitor.
Bolt Ace Gunslinger with the proficiencies properly swapped to include all Exotic Crossbows so it could use Repeating Crossbows would be cool.
He could dual wield em too. Would fit the Demon Hunter from Diablo 3.
I'd say an Investigator would be the best class for "Batman".

Brawler/Investigaator? Brawler/Inquisitor?
Actually, that last one sounds mighty good...
Monk/Investigator would also work nicely. Inquisitor fits the demon hunter to a t (minus the trap abilities), especially if he takes two weapon fighting and dual wields crossbows as above. Dip in a level of fighter or two to get Crossbow mastery/rapid reload, and you can drop your judgements on your dual light crossbows to spread your hate to the masses.
As for the Diablo wizard, it's a blaster style caster with a couple of defensive magics. Arcane or Destined Bloodline sorcerer would fit best, tapping in spells like chain lightning, mirror image, polar ray, etc. Add in metamagic feats like chain spell, repeating spell, that sort of thing to duplicate the modifications you get as you go up in level in the wizard.
