Converting the 3.5 Scout

Conversions

Second verse, same as the first --

I have a wild and ridiculous question, folks: would a straight conversion of the old 3.5 scout with full BAB be too much? This feels like pipe dream material to me, but there's nothing I'd like more than to put skirmish together with full base attack . . . .

Beyond that, any and all links, suggestions, or comments on converting the scout over would be welcome!

Thanks!

What are you looking for that already isn't covered in the Ranger or a Ranger archetype?

Taking it purely as-is and giving it a d10 HD, Full BAB would work.

A Guide Skirmisher Urban Ranger would probably also get the job done for you, though, but better, and be nearly identical to the Scout.

The Rogue Scout archetype actually isn't that far off. 4 levels of that, then full Slayer, and you are only losing 1 BAB compared to full.

But yeah, it also works as just full BAB/d10 HD.

You might also look at the Spell-less Ranger class in the New Paths Compendium from Kobold Press.

While not a direct conversion, the Spell-less Ranger has a lot of similarities with the Scout, and can easily serve as a Scout replacement. There are even ranger talents specifically designed to make the Spell-less Ranger even more Scout-like if that's what you are looking for!

This is the whole thing in a nutshell: I want 5d6 skirmish damage and the +5 AC skirmish bonus on a full BAB character. The fast movement, flawless stride, and freedom of movement are the icing on the cake. I want to incorporate the Spring Attack tree from 3.5 -- Bounding Assault, Rapid Blitz -- into the build. Lots of movement, lots of dice, lots of attacks.

You lose 1 BAB but 4 levels of scout rogue with Offensive defense and then full Slayer gets you that much and more.

I LOVED the scout in 3.5!!!

Full BAB and 1d10 HD might be a bit much when combined with skirmish damage and AC might be a bit much. But the one I played had a magic axe that gave an additional +4 to attack rolls when flanking. Maybe a scaling bonus to attack rolls when flanking, on higher ground, etc.

You may not need d10 HD since you will probably spring attacking a lot.

But the increase in BAB would make qualifying for feats like Spring Attack a lot easier. Especially if the bonus feats are given out at 4, 8, 12, 16, and 20.

My first thought: make it as a Slayer archetype. It's got the full BAB, and sneak attack in the chassis, just figure out what to swap out.

Thanks for the input, folks. I think that's a wrap.

Or make the Scout a 1d10 hit dice and keep everything else. Remember too per the 3.5e errata the Scout gets disable device.

Awhile back I converted it as a (more faithful IMHO) rogue archetype of the same name.
