Getting by the guard

Rules Questions

I have a character that is low level (currently) He just purchased Sleeves of Many Garments....

Sleeves of Many Garments
Aura faint illusion; CL 1st
Slot wrists; Price 200 gp; Weight 1 lb.

DESCRIPTION

These translucent cloth tubes easily fit over their wearer’s arms.

The wearer of these sleeves can, when she slips them on, choose to transform her current garments into any other non-magical set of clothing. These new clothes fit her perfectly and are always clean and mended unless she specifically designates otherwise. When she removes the sleeves, her clothes revert to their original form.

....If I'm looking at this right, this character can use these to look like city guard and walk past a check point (if he/she passes checks), look like he/she is wearing armor, etc...

the buckler the player has will look like a larger shield, that dagger on the belt looks like a sword or some other weapon.

Thoughts?

Clothing is not armor. Making it appear that you are wearing any clothing does not include making it appear that you are wearing any armor.

Likewise with bucklers and daggers, they are not clothing and will still look like bucklers and daggers.

You're better off just hiding the buckler and making your clothes look like some wealthy noble - maybe the guards are careful not to harass nobles. Or maybe go for the robes of a priest, particularly of whichever temple is most prominent in this city.

Too bad mock armor is labeled as 'adventuring gear' rather than as 'clothing'. Then you could fake the armor. It is a special item made of paper mache and balsa wood that makes it look like full plate, when it is really nothing.

Yeah, making yourself look rich and important is probably the best bet, especially since they often have weapons and amor. Even if you aren't supposed to be there, you could possibly bluff to make it look like you are an idiot noble's son that doesn't know any better.

Thank you
