Hell knights and Undead

Advice

OK, So I have been wondering. Would it be possible to have an Intelligent undead working with Hell Knights. Just wondering since the majority of Hell Knights are evil if it would be possible for let's say a Lawful Evil Lich to be in the hell knight order?

Yes, there are mage Hell Knights. They are called Signifiers.

Also, there is the Grave Knight intelligent Undead. Lich like, but they tend to form from martials and so a Hell Knight Grave Knight is not out of the question. Make him an old general from Chelix's glory days and the modern Hell Knights would likely gladly follow him, if for no other reason to learn of the glory of the good old days.

Cool :o That would be interesting to see.

Just as an fyi: the majority of Hellknights are lawful neutral, with (lawful good) paladins as notable members, rather than being evil.

Otherwise, carry on!

Oh! And a few homebrew orders, if you like!

Aren't there a lot of paladin Hell Knights?

EDIT: ninja'd

It might depend on the order, quite honestly. There are a wide variety of orders, and many of them are not even on friendly terms with eachother.

Your best bet would be the Order of the Gate, which is the 'magic is awesome' order. They are the ones that would be in favor of standard 'scry and fry' tactics, and they would likely be giddy over getting someone skilled enough to be a lich.

Otherwise...honestly, from some of what I've read, the rank and file are not likely to be evil. The guys that played the game and got to the upper ranks? Yeah, they got skeletons (And zombies) in their closets. But most hellknights are just ultra lawful guys with strict discipline. The fire and brime stone is just there to scare everyone into line (at least, Joe Smoe Skullcrusher thinks that).

So you want to try to get into contact with higher ups, and smooze them over secretly so that the lower ranks don't get bad vibes from the rotting guy walking about.

I think it's going to depend mostly on the specific Hellknight order and those in charge within it. It may fly in one Order while being anathema to another.

But yeah, seconding Graveknights as they're not only a perfect thematic match, but they also just spontaneously happen sometimes.

Plus that devil/Gurren Lagann armor is pretty much begging for the Graveknight treatment.

Ok, wow this is getting alot of replies, thanks ^^ I really like the info and I am just trying to do this so that the Party has to work with this Evil creature who is... more or less just upholding the law for my Free roam campaign

Actually isn't there a major NPC who is a graveknight and a member of the hellknights?

Of a disbanded order that was literally burned down

Wait, I could have sworn both of those actually exist in the same package in canon. Be right back.

Edit- The Order of the Crux

They are hardly proper hellknights though. Temporarily given the title in life as part of emergency civil war measures, brought to death by proper hellknights when they refused to disband, and then a few turned undead and continued to call themselves hellknights.
