What is the story behind "The Secret of the Mancatcher Cove"?

Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

In "The Secret of the Mancatcher Cove" you find a villain, which leads to another villain which leads... etc. The flavor text on the back of the card talks about a treasure that we are apparently hunting down. What is this treasure, and what does the string of villains have to do with it?

According to this most excellent and interesting adventure guide, the first villain has a treasure map amongst her tattoos that leads you to the secret location of Mancatcher Cove, which contains a legendary buried treasure. (I don't know if it is some kind of unique treasure, but you are pirates, so just generic legendary treasure would seem enough to raise your interest.) The other two villains seem to be the leaders of the tribe that guards the treasure.

It is just generic legendary treasure (weird as that is to say).

Well, you do get two Loot cards for winning the scenario so it's not a big stretch to assume those were part of that "legendary treasure"...
