So, an interesting question I have regarding dragons and a certain feat. Elemental Spell lets you the wizard swap out/composite energy damage from one type into another.
Dragons get elemental breath weapons.
In theory, would you be able to add Elemental Spell (whatever) to a dragon? If so, how would that affect its CR and/or breath weapon recharging time?
Also, am I insane for even considering this?

Metamagic feats only apply to spells. Even spell like abilities are different enough to have their own set of enhancement feats. So a supernatural ability like dragon breath would be definitely outside the parameters of the feat.
That said, back in 3.5, the Draconomicon had a set of metabreath feats, that did some pretty crazy things.
On a fluff level, a dragon's breath weapon is a very fundamental part of its nature, tied into the elemental forces that power it. Changing it, even temporarily, would be a serious task. At least as hard as a specialist wizard using his opposed schools. Mentally it could be a big deal as well; changing something that is literally a part of you. It could be like changing your voice tone, or your face, or even your gender.
And no, not insane, its a good idea with some interesting possibilities, its just that by the rules, the suggested approach won't work. But if you like the idea, your the DM, and you can do what you want to tell the story you want.
