So i am building a Spirit Guide oracle for the Jade Regent adventure path, they are going to be very fire based and have the sun as a major part of their backstory, i have already locked in the race i want (though i will not say because the other players sometimes read the advice forum) and am now stuck with a decision. I have to pick a mystery, so far of the ones out there i find two that can potentially fit thematically, Solar, and Flame. Flame is very thematic and has alot of cool abilities but it also locks me out of the Flame spirit, since they both have alot of overlap. Solar is pretty interesting and has its own thematics to it that fit well enough with the theme, as well as giving me a plethora of spells to use. Both look fine but i am having a terribly hard time deciding, any advice would be appreciated. I am somewhat leaning towards Flame at the moment but not enough to get a decisive decision out of me. I would appreciate your thoughts on the two.

Well, the question here becomes if your not taking the flame spirit, which spirits will you be taking. I read your earlier thread and it seamed you had a very clear idea for this character fluff wise and after looking at the rather small spirit list for shamans I found the bad news that there are really only two spirits that fit your concept, one of which is flame and the other which is life. All the other spirits are drastically different from your concept so personally whether you go flame or solar mystery is depending on whether you want thematic cohesion or not. If you want thematic cohesion, solar mystery with flame spirit. You don't have to muck around with "out of fluff" spirits this way and get basically exactly what you described in the other thread fluff-wise. However, if you really do want the flame mystery abilities more then your going to have to be ready to deal with the fact that the -optimal- spirits for you to choose will not mesh well with your character's fluff...at all. If the flame mystery benefits are big enough a draw to make you not care about the not-so-fitting-fluff then Flame is a great mystery and just as valid as Solar. This choice is entirely thematic and thus you should ask yourself what you value more...thematic cohesion or the mechanical benefits of the flame mystery, and base your choice on that. That's my two copper, I hope it helped some.

While i was working today i had an idea about the whole Flame vs Solar mystery thing, if i go flame oracle that will let me use my spirit for either lore or life spirits, which both somewhat fit thematically and also are pretty good to have (channel would be nice to have)
