Relocating RotRL

Advice

Newcomer on several levels. Be gentle please! :)

I started playing Pathfinder 18 mos ago. A month ago I picked up the Guide to the Inner Sea and proposed an open-ended-ish game to a small group of players. We're mostly done with characters and situated in the setting, and yesterday I picked up RotRL because it looked fun, and naturally now I want to use it. Poor planning, I know.

I'm just sitting down to read over RotRL tonight, and am still digesting the Inner Sea Guide. I'm wondering if anyone has tips or opinions on relocating Sandpoint to Andoran? (I'm sure there are setting purists this will give indigestion. This is a closed game where I'll doubtless take arbitrarily many liberties...)

Alternately, thoughts on why travelling far-away to Varisia should or can be less jarring than I think?

Finally, if the group is going to be a trio, anyone have an opinion on bringing PCs in at higher level vs closer ties to likely NPCs in the AP?

Speaking as a player currently in the last book of the path, don't even try to relocate it. It'd be a huge effort as the plot of the path is tied directly in with the ancient history of Varisia. There is no reason for it to take place anywhere else, and significant locations exist in Varisia because they've been there for thousands of years since they were built in ancient Thassilon.
I have a hard time seeing how moving this all to Andoran—or anywhere else—wouldn't result in a big mess in the setting.
