Ifrit Sorcerer & Eldritch Heritage

Advice

Hi there!

I was just tinkering around with a few ideas for an Ifrit Sorcerer build. Just because. Obviously, I was thinking of the Fire Elemental bloodline because of the effective CHA boost. But I was just wondering if there was any point in taking Eldritch Heritage with the Efreeti bloodline.

The thing is there are duplicated bloodline powers for the two bloodlines:

  • First: Fire Ray for both
  • Third: Elemental Resistance (fire) for both
  • Fifteen: Elemental Movement (fire) for both

The only difference for bloodline powers is at level Nine:

  • Efreeti bloodline: Efreeti Form
  • Elemental bloodline: Elemental Blast

I think that if one really, really, really wanted the Fire Elemental bloodline and Eldritch Heritage for the Efreeti bloodline, you would probably still need to take Eldritch Heritage to duplicate the Fire Ray power before taking Improved Eldritch Heritage to get the Efreeti Form power.

My question, after all that, is this: is there any benefit to getting that Fire Ray twice? Or is it just an expensive feat tax sort of thing? I just want to know whether or not it's worthwhile trying to take Eldritch Heritage with the Efreeti bloodline. Probably not, as near as I can tell.

You would have two different pools of fire ray uses, one at full level and another at level - 2. Unless you're already running out of those at least some of the time it's going to be 0 benefit.

If this isn't PFS I would ask my DM to just allow me to apply the fire affinity to the Efreeti bloodline instead. It may as well be an archetype of the elemental (fire) bloodline anyway. In fact, it's actually a *more* appropriate affinity than elemental (fire).

@StabbittyDoom: Oh, right. I could get two ray pools. Which wouldn't be as bad as no benefit at all, I suppose. I guess it would depend on how frequently I'd be wanting to fry things, I suppose. At worst, it would mean one of three feats (Skill Focus, Eldritch Heritage, Greater Eldritch Heritage) is kind of lacklustre.

This isn't actually for a game I'm in. I was just killing a bit of time to see how such a build could work, should he or she survive long enough to get decent levels.

You're right, though, the Efreeti bloodline would be the more thematic of the two bloodlines. But they are similar.

Thanks for the tip, though. I somehow hadn't thought of being able to get two pools of fire rays, I just thought there might be no benefit whatsoever.

I just thought about it too. I guess the easiest way to take Efreeti as a Endritch Heritage feat would be to wait to level 7 and take the bloodline feat Skill Focus (Knowledge [planes]) as the prerequisite.
