Dropping an object into a container?

What kind of action is it? I know simply dropping a held object is a free action but what if you want to drop it into say an open barrel or bag of holding/handy haversack? Is it a move action?

Putting an item away is a move action that provokes. Dropping an item in your square of an adjacent square is a free action. The argument could be made that if the container had a large enough mouth and the opening were low enough, it could be considered a free action. For instance, dropping an item into a sizable crate or chest. But dropping it into a barrel requires you to at least lift the item to the rim so I'd say that is a move action.
