Calculating To-Hit and Bonus Damage

Rules Questions

I am having trouble getting it through my head regarding how we calculate To Hit and the Bonus Damage on melee attacks. I think I have the To Hit down, but the Bonus Damage just messes with my brain.

Level 8 Barbarian
STR: 22 (+6)
BAB: +8 / +3
Weapon Focus: Large Adamantine Falcata

Weapon: Large Sized, Adamantine Falcata w/ Keen Weapon Enchant
I believe this makes the weapon function as +2 Magic)

To Hit=BAB+STR Mod+Weap Focus+Magic Weapon-Lg Sized Weap= 15
To Hit w/ Power Attack= 12
Rage To Hit= 17
Rage To Hit w/ Power Attack= 15

Damage
Normal Attack: 2d6+9 (or is it 2d6+11 adding in the magic weapon bonus)
Normal Power Attack: 2d6+17 ?
Rage Normal Attack: 2d6+12 (+14?)
Rage Power Attack: 2d6+20 ?

Please, I need this to make sense in my brain! Thanks for the help.

How are you getting Keen on that large falcata ?
If you've got a ally casting Keen Edge or something like a Scabbard of Keen Edges, that can do it, but if you want the weapon permanently enchanted with the Keen Weapon special ability, then it must first be at least a +1 magic weapon. Keen COSTS as if it was a +1, but doesn't affect your chance to hit.

So is your weapon a +2 Large Keen Adamantine Falcata ? That is, it has a +2 enhancement bonus AND is Keen as well ? Confirm this, but for now I'll assume so.

I'm going to assume you're a medium barbarian without any special things like Large Frame. Since the weapon is a large one-handed martial weapon, you're going to have to wield it in two hands and take a -2 to attack rolls.

To hit

BAB +8 (from levels)
STR +6 (from 22 STR)
FCS +1 (weapon focus)
ENH +2 (enhancement bonus of weapon)
SIZ -2 (inappropriately sized weapon)
= 15

PWR -3 (power attack penalty for BAB +8)
RGE +2 (additional strength bonus from rage)

Damage

BWD 2d6 (base weapon damage)
STR +9 (1.5x str because you MUST be wielding in two hands)
ENH +2 (enhancement bonus of weapon)
= 2d6 + 11

PWR +9 (1.5x +6 because you MUST be wielding in two hands)
RGE +3 (1.5x additional strength bonuse damage from rage)

PWR only 2d6+20
RGE only 2d6+14
both 2d6+23

You are correct, it is a +2 weapon. And thanks, I will make sense out of that!

OK, I follow your To Hit calculations, and the Regular Hit and Rage Hit Damage calculations, but I am having trouble following the Power Attack damage calculations.

Base Bonus Damage = +11, then for Power Attack you calculate an additional 9? Why is it 9 and not just +6 for the Power Attack bonus?

Power Attack is -1 to hit, +2 to damage, and another -1/+2 per 4 BAB. BAB 11 means it's normally -3/+6. However, when two-handing a weapon, Power Attack is multiplied by 50% just like the strength bonus-- 6*1.5=9

Thanks for the explanation.
