I had this idea, and i'm questioning myself on how to do that.
Undeads are out of discussion, because of the paladin.
I would avoid animals because they don't fit my idea of minions.
Construct are cool (and maybe my only choice remaining then) but very expensive.
If someone has an idea on, or a sample build, will be great.

Please give us more information on what you are thinking about.
-Are you looking to take the leadership feat and have a horde of minions follow your PC around?
-Are you a GM looking to build a horde of single HP minions for the enemies to wade through on their way to the BBEG?
I've used the second (borrowed out of 4ed) and, used sparingly, it is a lot of fun! Just don't tell your players that they are single HP minions. If they score a critical hit, give a big gory description. Otherwise, just let them chop their way through a horde of enemies. Have 1 in every 4 or so (rolled randomly) take 2 hits to go down and they probably won't catch on to what you are doing.

Two ways:
1) the Leadership feat is a RAW-baked method to have multiple hireling-slash-buddies at your beck & call... although many DMs don't allow it.
2) Cold, hard cash. There are rules for hiring & paying NPCs, and that works for mercenaries too. Although they might want extra hazard pay for following you into a dungeon, or have other collective-bargaining demands for you, their cruel boss.

Leadership may allow only one "buddy" or cohort, but you also kind of get the horde of low-level-followers thing going.
Construct crafting will only work for high-level wizards with both lots of time & great wads of cash. Go first for a flesh golem with a "lithp" and name him "Igor".
"Yeth, Marthter?"
