mutiple people playing the same character

Pathfinder Adventure Card Game General Discussion

Hello all
FYI I am very new to to the game and the forums.

I have just bought the base set of skulls and shackles based on word of mouth from a friend. Is there a cheap app on Ipads that people use to keep track of charcter cards and have more than rise of the rune lords characters, or will have to use excell?

Also, we have two people that want to play the same character on the same game together. Is this allowed? Again this is part of the reason why i need question one sovled.

Thanks for your time

I don't know of any app, but there are these character sheets.

As for multiples of the same character, it isn't against the rules so much as it is outside the design of the game. You'll have a lot of overlap in skills and desired cards. I would at least recommend looking to see if a different version of the character is available in the class decks or the other base set. But if not, or if they are both set on being that particular character, it won't be the end of the world.

Welcome to PACG and good luck on your adventure.

Only one person can get play credit for running the same character. So yes you can have your multiples if the GM allows it, but the character can only be registered to one person who gets the credit.

If they want to play two separate characters that look alike, that's another story.

That might be true for pathfinder role playing game, but this is a card game question (though I think it was posted in the wrong forum originally and moved).

I recommend printing the character sheets from

http://paizo.com/products/btpy914x

They track everything that's on your character card, and what cards are in your deck.

You can play whatever characters you like, even characters from the Rise of the Runelords or class decks. One thing to be careful of playing duplicates is that every character has an area that they aren't good in. Now you'll have two of those areas.

Also, trying to both have good cards is hard depending on the character. Lirianne for example, two firearm based characters probably would be hard to keep at the proper power level.

I fully agree with Andrew. Playing the same character twice will shine a light on the things that character is weak in. Analyzing the locations that need to be closed such as closing requirements, location specific events and triggers, and things such as how many barriers, how many monsters, spells.. etc.. and attacking them with the character that has the best chance to close/obtain boons/defeat banes in them is an important part of the strategy.

The question I responded to was originally in the PFS forum.

The idea behind a Character in this game is that you bundle all the boon cards (weapons/spells/armor/items/allies/blessings) that make up your character together in one deck. That is your character deck, and it remains separate from the rest of the cards in the box. No need for an excel spreadsheet.

I don't think it's allowed to have more than one of the same character in the same game, unless you have a separate Character Card for that character (e.g. there are multiple variations of "Lem", so you could have one person playing the Bard Class Deck "Lem" and another playing the Skulls & Shackles "Lem").

Technically the box you bought is yours and you are allowed to make your own house rules of how you want to play the game.

Now, I think the questions you really want to ask are:
Is it possible?
Is it recommended?

Yes it is possible as long as you have the character cards for both players (or character sheets).

No it is not recommended for you to do so. The game is designed to have you select different characters to cover as much weak points as possible, and for you to bring decision making into selecting which characters to bring in the party.

Say a party of 4 wanted to all play a spellcaster. You are totally allowed to do it, but obvious struggles will await you. Tons of boons will be useless for the whole party, many checks will be hard to overcome, etc.

Now I would like you to be aware that there is a character add-on deck for Skull & Shackles that adds 4 characters. There are 7 Class decks available and each with 4 unique characters. Also You may use characters from the base set Rise of the Runelords and its character add-on deck.

11 characters from RotR
11 characters from S&S
28 characters from Class Decks
1 promotion character

That's 51 total characters available to date. Several of them are the same character with different skills/powers.

Unless those two individuals have deep attachment to said character, I suggest you just try to buy the other decks to have more character options for them.

Thanks guys
