Maximizing Untwisting Iron Skin

Advice

Iron Skin grants DR - based on the hardness of an object you break. I'm looking for ways to increase the hardness of either a firearm or armor spikes to obscene levels.

Firearms can be broken through a misfire and then quick cleared reliably.

Armor spikes can be broken through Quillbreaker Defense as an immediate action.

The problem is I can't pump an objects hardness past 40 (20 from adamantine, 10 from +5 and 10 from impervious). Is there any way to get a significant amount of DR (>20) from this ability?

Firearms gain the broken condition by misfiring, but YOU are not breaking it.

Quillbreaker Defense is a bit more subtle, but I would argue that giving it the broken condition is different than breaking it. Breaking an object is a technical term, involving rolling versus a Break DC.

Breaking an object has rules text attached to it with two general means to do so. Quillbreaker Defense has rules text attached to it that provides another.

You are correct about the firearms. Good catch.

Any idea how to increase Armor Spikes hardness to obscene levels?

What is Iron Skin exactly? Anyway as far as raising hardness...

1. Adamantite has hardness 20.
2. Enhancement adds +2 hardness per +1. If you spend a flat 3,000 gold you can get Impervious, which would mean you get a +4 hardness increase for each +1.
3. The spell Hardening adds +1/2 caster level to an item's hardness.

So with +5 Impervious Adamantite Armor Spikes hardened by a 20th level caster you are looking at a hardness of 50.

When using Perfect Style, you gain an amount of DR/adamantine equal to 1/3 your character level (maximum 6). Additionally, whenever you break an item with at least hardness 10, you gain DR 1/— for a number of rounds equal to half the item's hit points (maximum 10 rounds); the value of this damage reduction increases by 1 for every 5 points of hardness above 10 the broken item possessed. You can spend 1 ki point as a swift action to double either of the damage reduction values granted by this feat for 1 round.

I know the magus has an archetype (soul forger) that adds class level hardness to an item 1/day, but even at 60 hardness we're only looking at 11 base DR on a level 20 character.

DR 11/- is quite significant. An 20th level invulnerable rager barbarian gets DR 10/-, or 13/- raging if they spend 3 rage powers to max out Improved DR, and that archetype is supposed to be the DR champion.

A level 11 druid can gain 15 alignment based dr of their choice with a single fest investment. Iron body doesn't even stack with stalwart.

What feat is that?

What feat is that?

Planar Wild Shape

Which only gives DR10/ Alignment.

(Unless I'm missing another feat)
