Bind Spirits

A archetype name can seal pacts with spirits. The archetype name's binder level equals the character's archetype class level, and a archetype name binds spirits as an occultist of that same level. (When applicable it may also state) A archetype name uses primary stat in place of Charisma on binding checks and when calculating the effectiveness of granted abilities.

It doesn't seem clear about whether binding multiple spirits would be exclusive to the occultist. Tome of Magic in 3.5 made a distinction for it, and at first I thought it might assume the same distinction applies since some of the archetypes would be very potent with multiple spirits bound...

...but then when looking at some archetypes, their features are clunky and don't work without the ability to bind multiple spirits. Some make you suffer terrible negatives for not having a particular spirit of a constellation, and others trade out spirit abilities (or trigger their cooldowns) and cite the loss of that particular spirit's abilities only.

It may be a bit much to hope that somebody from Radiance House will see this, but can I get some opinions?

Bump. Could really use some opinions.

This should really be in the Compatible Products From Other Publishers sub-forum. (Clicked FAQ by mistake at first instead of flag.)

I think the intent is that only occultists can bind multiple spirits at a time. Alexander will hopefully be along at some point though!

Bind Spirits and Bind Additional Spirits are different class features; if they can bind spirits like an occultist, but don't get bind additional spirits, I'm pretty sure they can only bind a single spirit. I imagine the specification of a particular spirit is for multiclass occultists/whichever archetypes you're referring to, in case they went into occultist later and got the ability to bind multiple spirits, while the other one is supposed to encourage you to bind spirits of the appropriate constellation, but still allow you to bind others if you're willing to accept the downsides? My two cents, though of course I'm not Alexander Augunas.

Might be some modifications upcoming, though, with that kickstarter on the horizon...

Given what I know (which is what little is on d20pfsrd) I agree, only one spirit.

Honestly though, a lot of the text in there could use some editing, lotta phrases and terminology with unclear meanings.

Bind Additional Spirts is a seperate class feature from Bind Spirits. As such, occultists are an exception to the rule; they can bind multiple spirits whereas all other spirit binders can deal a pact with no more than a single spirit at a time.

Keep an eye out for our Kickstarter next month! We are doing a big compilation project called Pact Magic Unbound: Grimoire of Lost Souls. It's a compilation of Vols 1 and 2, plus a large chunk of new content, such as new spirits, feats, and Advanced Class Guide archetypes. The book also includes expansive rules editing and alot of our previous assumptions (that the reader is already familiar with Pact Magic via the Tome of Magic) has been abandoned. We're in the process of playtesting the material now.
