Rise of the Runelords Base Set Rulebook pdf file

A little over a month ago I downloaded Rise of the Runelords Base Set Rulebook pdf file. I think I got it from this web site. I've been highlighting and marking it. But do I have the most recent version of the rules? I understand the FAQ has updates; and should also be checked. But have these changes been added to the pdf rulebook? If so, as of what date? Any information on this would be appreciated.

I read the following:

Updates

A revised PDF edition of the rulebook was posted on January 4.
It includes all of the resolutions in the Rules Question section
of this FAQ made prior to that date.

Since it's stated that it was posted November 2013; Does this mean it was January 4 of 2013, or 2014, or possibly 2015?

Please- It would be very helpful to have "date of update" stated in the actual rulebook pdf file (and print version). Otherwise, (if updates have been added to the original rule book) how do I know if I have downloaded and using the most recent version?

I cannot find any version number or date of update in the Rulebook relating to updates of the rules in the current Rise of the Runelords Base Set Rulebook pdf file.

The only reference to time period that I found is the Back Matter of the rulebook has a copyright of 2013. Has there been any updates added since then?

I would personally suggest The Skull & Shackles Rulebook. It has the more polished rules. The only thing from that rulebook that you will not incorporate in RotR will be anything that talks about 'Ships.'

Everything else, applies.

The S&S Rulebook PDF is also available on the resources and downloads section.

I would still keep checking the FAQ section because they add stuff periodically when they find an issue.

Neither book is perfectly up to date with the FAQ. As bbKabag said, the SKull and Shackles one is more accurate. Just swap "Before you act" for "Before the encounter" and "After you act" with "After the encounter." Also, be sure to recognized the distinction between skills and dice that Skull and Shackles points out.

As for the January 4/November 2013 thing, the rulebook was first updated in November 2013 (version 2). Then updated again January 4, 2014 (version 3). Anything in the FAQ after January 4, 2014 won't be in the rulebook.

And as a last little bit of info, it was actually updated again in February 2014, but that change was just some formatting and hyperlinks in the pdf, no changes to rules.

Bought the game at the beginning of December 2014. Read about it long before that. It was surprising to see the issues were not corrected by now on the game cards. Got three other people to play. Two came back for a second game. Two out of three is good. We'll see how long they/we last.

Before playing with others I tried a few solo practice games using 3 and 4 characters. Felt good about it. Wrote some things on some of the cards. But I didn't find all the issues that came up when playing with other people. A lot of the issues that came up while we played are covered here. That helps. So the game bogged down sometimes while we were trying to clarify things. But that happens when playing a game for the first few times.

The more I play, the better I feel about the game. Will probably try to play some more.
