Hello me and some friends are getting ready to play Rise of the Tune lords and I was wondering what a good starting party would be. I believe that there will be four of us PCs and I plan to play a ranger (which I have never played a would also like some build ideas for RotRL) any help is appreciated and thank you very much in advance.

Really anything would be good for your group. That said, wizards will do fairly decently in this AP, as would Rangers and any of the core classes. Gunslingers will not have any viable loot in the adventure, but outside of that pretty much any class will fit in.
Also, any build can thrive in this AP as well. I've heard archers do quite well with it, but I can't see why melee-types won't thrive as well. The group I'm GMing consists of an Imperious Sorceress, an Eldritch Knight (Ranger/Transmuter), a Cleric with one level of Bard, a throwing-axe Ranger, and the NPC which had been going Arcane Trickster (2 levels with a base of Air Elementalist 3/Rogue 4) before going Swashbuckler. They've had few problems really.

Then you should really all be bards! <g>
Seriously, any class is good for RotRL. Rangers with hatred of giants is an obvious choice. I also suggest at least one arcane spellcaster and one cleric or cleric-like character.
Don't read too much in this forum though - full of spoilers.

You're using Harsk as your avatar. Harsk is an iconic that is well suited to the campaign. So yes, rangers can do quite well, a dwarf ranger in particular.
Tangent is right that there won't be any treasure for a gunslinger. Likewise there probably isn't anything there specifically for Alchemists. Likewise as Tangent said there is a lot of areas where wizards will do well treasure-wise. Most of the treasure though is fairly generic and a lot of it is just meant to be sold.
Having two characters play full BAB classes would not be a bad idea. Alternately having a 3/4 BAB class that can easily buff its hit chance is probably good, like a combat-oriented bard or an inquisitor. I am running the campaign and my starting party had mostly +1 or +2 to hit which was a problem. It balanced out fairly quickly but it was kind of embarrassing early on. You don't need a barbarian with 20 STR but you do need something.
I think the campaign would probably work fairly well with some of the newer classes so you shouldn't feel restricted to the "classic" four character types. There are some traps but you probably don't need a dedicated trap spotter. There are lots of ruins in Varisia so an archaeologist bard might work well.
A Paladin will totally ROFLstomp a lot of areas of the adventure. I actually would suggest NOT having a paladin as it may make certain parts seem too easy. YMMV. Some of the parts of the campaign are meant to be mysterious or suspenseful and the detect evil at will kind of ruins that.

Ranger will be really good for this campaign. For 1st level favored enemy hints, I would suggest either goblinoid or undead.
Party wise, I would suggest a Wizard (or Arcanist), and a Cleric (or Oracle) is always nice to have.
And remember, if no one else takes a character with trapfinding, you have the option of taking the Trapper archetype, if you are so inclined.

Thanks for all of your input guys. Are their any ranger archetypes that you would recommend I don't really plan on being the trap finder if there is to be one. I really just want to shoot bad guy's in their faces so anything that helps with that and is hopefully fun as well would be great (I'll be looking but recommendations are always nice) (I also just noticed that I originally said "Rise of the Tune Lords" lol)

Have you checked out the player's guides? There are two--the original and an anniversary edition. Check with your GM first as the latter contains some borderline-spoiler information. But, they contain the kinds of hints you may be looking for--typical monsters, descriptions of Varisian geography, etc.

Rise of the Runelords Ranger recommendation for someone who doesn't really plan on being the trap finder and just really wants to shoot bad guys in their faces.
