Pistol whipping, but not as a gunslinger . . .

Whats the damage die for a pistol whip without having the Pistol Whip deed? I'm making a Picaroon and I was wondering what my options were for when I run out of bullets. I dont want to be in the fray with a lump of iron in my hand.

At that point it would be an improvised weapon doing 1d6 damage.

I can get behind that. I just wanted to make sure it was viable. Thank you!

Improvised weapon. If I were running it, I'd treat a pistol as an improvised light hammer, doing 1d4 instead of 1d6.

Sovereign Court

i don't think you would threaten with it unless you take the appropriate improvised weapon feats, but I could be wrong... (same way you don't normally threaten with a crossbow or bow in hand...)

By the way, when using the pistol whip deed (hmmmmm... delicious pistol whip) I've ruled in my games that you threaten with the pistol until the beginning of your next turn (i.e. one full round following the activation of the deed)

I said 1d6 because a pistol is a one-handed weapon while the light hammer is only light.

It's a one handed firearm, but that doesn't mean it's a one-handed melee weapon. It's at most 12 inches long with a metal barrel and a wood grip. Trying to bash someone with it with two hands (possible with a one handed weapon) is a little laughable.
