Samsaran Shaman and Mystic Past Life

Advice

Radiant Oath

We're putting together a party for Iron Gods, and as it seems everyone else is forming the Brute Squad, it will fall to me to cover both healing/buffing and debuffing. Shaman seems a solid fit for that role, and being Samsaran should help with fixing gaps in the spell list.

I'm still trying to come to grips with the class, and I've never been great at reading spell lists, so I was hoping for some advice on important spells that I could pick up from another Divine class that fit the role of party support- I doubt I'll be called on to do much stick swinging so I probably won't bother with self buffs (as much as I love Divine Favor).

My current preliminary list is things like Invisibility Purge and Heroes' Feast, but I'm sure there's something fairly important I'm missing. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

It's a trap!

Look at the Human/Half-Elf/Half-Orc Favored Class Bonus. See those 20 additional Cleric list spells you could be getting (18 if you don't count the 2 orisons). Honestly, the Shaman's list while very very weird and occasionally lacking critical spells, isn't bad. And they know the whole list. If you go Half-Elf, I recommend making your 3rd level Cleric Spell (at 7th level) Paragon Surge. Otherwise, just pick spells to help fill in gaps.

A few quick points:

Default Shaman is best Shaman.

You are taking Spirit Talker at 7th level. Go ahead and pencil it in now.

Your Evil Eye is a guaranteed non-mind-affecting debuff. I honestly can't think of anything immune to this besides things in an Antimagic field.

I'm just going to go ahead and recommend you pick up Slumber Hex as your Witch Hex.

Keep in mind that at 4th level, you have a 2 lists to draw your spontaneous Spirit magic spells from. One of which is flexible.

Your get quite few a flexible hexes (especially with Spirit Talker) so be sure to pick appropriate ones for a given day.

Never ever take Lore as your main spirit. Using Wandering Hex or Spirit Talker to get Arcane Enlightenment to add flexible Arcane Spells is to good to pass up.

Really you should be fine. Shamans are incredibly flexible (more so then any other class in my opinion) so you can always try stuff out and see what sticks.

Radiant Oath

Somehow I misread those FCBs as similar to the Wizard one, which obviously makes no sense with any thought- thanks for pointing them out.

The rest of the advice is awesome, so cheers for that. It's interesting how many elements there are to the class and that whilst they're connected they can also be utilised independently- it's likely that my main Spirit will be Battle or Life, even though I don't intend on taking their Hexes; the Spirit Abilities and Magic line up with what I want to do.

On the flip side, EvilGM, how about:

Samsaran Oracle with the spirit guide archetype? You get a spirit you can change daily, all your mystery spells, all your mystic past life spells, and the added flexibility of being able to add even more spells with the Lore spirit.

:D
