Master of the Fallen Fortress

Rise of the Runelords

Hey, has anyone tried to implement the free module Master of the Fallen Fortress into Rise of the Runelords?

I even thought about combining Boggards in Brinestump Marsh with the module.

So the adventure would happen between Burnt Offerings and Skinsaw Murders. You can sort of replace the enemies with the boggards from the Brinestump Adventure.

The "boss" could be something like the Old Megus. Or maybe, the Old Megus is not even controlling the boggards anymore, instead, a different person, maybe an evil mage replaced the Old Megus and is controlling the strong boggardtribe right now. I don't know, something like that.

Has anyone tried this yet? Maybe you could share some of your experiences with this^^

I really thought I responded to this yesterday - but I was dozing and posting.

Anyway, I have that both Master of the Fallen Fortress and Boggards in Brinestump Marsh socked away in my toolbox, but I suspect that MotFF simply wont get used as I have a fair amount of other material that I'm pretty sure I WILL use that will require less work than MotFF, such as We Be Goblins, The Toadstool Goblins and The Firemaker along with Boggards.

I do like your idea of combining the two.

Another thought that came to me as I wrote this was to include MotFF as an off screen adventure. When the Sheriff goes to Magnimar to get help after Grim News from Mosswood, along with the 12 green soldiers, the pre-gens from MotFF come down to make a name for themselves against the goblins - instead getting mixed up in MotFF. The pre-gens can linger around Sandpoint and be used at will as foils/rivals/allies/scenery/whatever.

I once ran this as an introduction adventure for RotR.

The idea was they were running MotFF as is, then the Pathfinders sent them to Sandpoint to investigate some rumours of goblins there.

Oh come on now The Lorax we all know you were drinking Truffula Fruit Juice and passed out:-p

Ummm why do you think I didn't remember posting or not posting?

The fermented Truffula Fruit Juice made me sleepy!

I did let MotFF out and just played out Boggards in theBrinestump Marsh, way easiert to prepare and worked out just fine. Integrating MotFF is maybe an idea, but for me it was just too much work.

I ran MotFF as a side quest after the Festival before the Catacombs started up. We had a player who couldn't make it the session I was going to hook what essentially amounts to the entire Adventure Path.... So I went ahead and created a side quest.

Quink has heard about the tower (50ish miles North of Sandpoint off of the Lost Coast road. Its similar in material composition to the Old Light ( lore wise its actually another tower... but the party won't know that for a long time.) As the party was lvl 1, I ran everything else as is with one addition.

I put another Runewell at the top of the tower above the stair entrance to the top. It has a low amount of charges, most created by the party killing their way through the tower. Its a remote area so unlikely to gain charges. The creatures there do not know how it works.

So the party has no hints at all about this orange liquid inside this obsidian colored tower. A smart party may put a couple things together... mine did not. My party has actually left the runewell there with liquid in it.

I am currently running the Boggards of Brinstump Marsh side quest between Book 1 and Book 2. The party was growing a bit tired of Thassalon and ancients that they could not figure out. Half the party wanted to go and deal with whatever Malfeshnikor was, the other half didn't (rightly so, at lvl 4 they would not fair well.)After traveling to Magnimar to research they found Shalelu unconscious in the road.

I am using it as the way my PCs meet before starting ROTRL; they would be returning to Sandpoint right before the Festival

That's what I did, seemed to work well. Only slight difference is Pathfinders sent them to learn about the town, build relationships, etc...goblins then attacked, players are swept into the AP
