Provided I don't use my move action to move when using the arcanist's dimensional slide ability, can I also take a 5-foot step in the same turn?

I don't believe so. It's part of a move action. The 5 ft. step replaces the move action. Only the conjurer's Shift power permits additional movement since it is a swift action. Dimensional slide is part of your movement.

Dimensional Slide (Su): The arcanist can expend 1 point from her arcane reservoir to create a dimensional crack that she can step through to reach another location. This ability is used as part of a move action or withdraw action, allowing her to move up to 10 feet per arcanist level to any location she can see. This counts as 5 feet of movement. She can only use this ability once per round. She does not provoke attacks of opportunity when moving in this way, but any other movement she attempts as part of her move action provokes as normal.

The slide is used as part of a move (or withdrawal) action. It DOES count as 5 ft of movement.

You can't take more than one 5-foot step in a round, and you can't take a 5-foot step in the same round that you move any distance.

The dimensional slide specifically states it counts as movement, so no, a 'take 5-foot step' action would not be allowed in the same round. This contrasts with a few other 'teleport' actions that reposition a character without the character actually 'moving' on his own.

5-foot steps don't kill move actions, Create Mr. Pitt, only movement.

Thank you, CraziFuzzy, I think that answers my question quite nicely.
