Gunslinger and attacks of opportunity

With a gunslinger, do the pistols they use invite and attack of opportunity if used at close range me lee? Are their feats or other abilities that negate AOs when using their gun of choice?

Grand Lodge

Yes, firing a pistol, musket, rifle or other gunpowder weapon will provoke an attack of opportunity, the same as using a bow or crossbow. However, loading a gun also provokes.

There is a deed, IIRC, that allows you to use load it without provoking.

There is also the Point Blank Master feat, which would work to let you fire it without provoking.

Thanks I appreciate the feedback

there are also archetypes that have "sword and pistol" class ability that let you shoot in melee without provoking.

I kinda like the idea of a double barreled pistol and a Klar.

A klar that also had a dragon pistol built in would be some extra fun as well.

The feat you'll want is Deft Shootist.

It allowed my Fighter/Gunslinger to be an effective front line tank.

Also lets not forget the Sword and Pistol feat from Ultimate Combat, but of course that only works when dual wielding.

also point blank master allows one to fire without provoking (reloading still provokes) - but is tough for gunslinger to get as it requires weapon specialization which is a fighter feat.
