Idea: Adventure Summary sheets

Pathfinder Adventure Card Game General Discussion

Finally got to play the Rise of the Runelords basic set last night. Once we figured out where and what the various cards did, it moved along quickly and even vaguely approached a sense of fun. A non gamer came over, we made her a Kyra deck and she killed a few bad guys for us while making cookies. So, that was fun.

What did occur to me, though, was the lack of context. I know the various adventure scenarios have a very short paragraph of information saying what something is, or what is going on. But I think it needs more. Not much more, but a little bit more.

Right now, the game is "a card game based on Pathfinder RPG material" which is great. But if you don't know Pathfinder RPG material, its a bit confusing.

Might I suggest creating maybe a download, or a small booklet for future sets which:

- explains the locale, and some of the background (maybe reprint the RPG material from the comic book?)
- A quick bit of background for the "adventure module" section: maybe a summary of the intro from each of the adventure path releases.
- explains what the stakes are - why are we upset about rising runelords?
- maybe some extra silliness like goblin rhymes

Beyond all that, the thing is good fun, with some amusing crossover potential.

I two would love such a product and would be willing to pay for it. I'm not able to justify the expense of buying the adventure path RPG just for the story, but at a lower price point I'd pay to get something that gave a bit more story to each scenario.

And, while there isn't anything "official" like what you are asking for, though there is this fan made one.

I also would love such a product from Paizo and would also pay for it. We play with some who GM the RPG and they insert interesting comments from time to time about back story, and it really helps with the flavor.

I'm glad this idea isn't with the base though. I actually try to avoid reading the flavor text of most of the cards, because one day in the future I want to actually play the RotR and S&S APs and I want as few story spoilers as possible.
I know Mike's team has put a lot of work into this part and I apoligize to them, but I do it for what I feel is good reason. Although, having a seperate document like you guys are talking about sounds good.

The thread headlines starting with "IDEA: ..." Become now very popular, eh :-)))!!!

3 people marked this as a favorite.

I've GMd the first two S&S adventures, and it definitely helps understand a lot of the story. Right down to the generic monsters like Giant Frog and Reefclaws. I have the other 4 and should read through them now that we're passed what I've done.

I'm not gonna lie, I saw the newest post to this thread was from you and opened it just to prove my prediction that this was what you posted.
