I like the basic samurai as a good representation of the honorable mongol warrior better than the cavalier. When allowed to use 3PP material, I choose the yabusame samurai archetype from Rite Publishing Way of the Samurai (PFRPG), because of being a mounted archer specialist.

If looking for mechanics...I actually wrote up a mongol warrior a while back (the equipment's even more or less accurate, per wikipedia). In short, Luring Emissary Cavalier is basically perfect for horse archers.

Karazh in Casmaron is also a good spot, as it drew a fair bit of influence from Mongolia and Kazakhstan. So far, it's only been detailed in the web fiction story Boar and Rabbit.
So far. :)

Not exactly! The capital (such as it is) of Karazh is Ular Kel, but while I drew inspiration from all over the region, I didn't have a direct analogue for the city.

Thanks everyone for the input. Because this is for PFS, I'm probably going to go with Hongal. Marco Polo on Netflix is indeed really good, I've been watching it with my family. "Range of Ghosts" by Elizabeth Bear was also a source of (mongol) inspiration for me; I strongly recommend reading it.
The whole series was excellent. I have been wanting to make a horse-archer type since one of the fight scenes in the first book.
She's working on second trilogy in the same setting, if you hadn't heard.

I recommend watching Marco Polo on Netflicks for a decent show with mongols.
Also, a there is a great Korean film called Musa or alternately "The Warrior" that has an excellent portrayal of Mongols. Just make sure you get the international version, as the US release cut 30 minutes from the film and left it a mess.
