Help! Feat Clarification: Fighter @ Level 6

Rules Questions

Hi!

tl:dr - does this add up, it seems like so much damage?!

I helped through a fighter together for a friend that's new to Pathfinder the other day with short notice before a game. I went the all offense/2hd weapon route, and pulled things together:

Stats:
Str: 18 (+4)
Dex: 12 (+1)
Con: 14 (+2)
Int: 10 (0)
Wis: 11 (0)
Cha: 7 (-2)

Feats:
Weapon Training
Weapon Focus
Power Attack
Furious Focus
Cleave
Cleaving Finish
Increased Critical
Diehard

Weapon:
+1 Greatsword

So, with this all together, I came to this for his to hit/dmg:

Hit Dmg
BAB +6/+1 0
Str +4/+4 +6
PA 0/-2 +6
WF +1/+1 0
WT +1/+1 +1
GS+1 +1/+1 +1

Totals
Atk 1 +13 +14
Atk 2 +6 +14

I've only just started playing more regularly after playing 3.5 a few times a year for a long, long time. Without a lot of experience with Fighters, this just felt like a huge amount of damage to be dealing out at this level. Before we play again I wanted to have someone quickly double check my math to ensure I haven't missed something in the way these feats interact.

Thank you so much in advance for anyone that can chime in!

I expect a level 1 fighting type to be dealing 2d6+9 damage from a Greatsword/Earthbreaker with 18 Str and Power Attack. By level 6, 2d6+14 is pretty "eh," because I'd expect you Strength to be higher by now (no Str belt?) and a Fighter should be able to afford taking Weapon Specialization.

Oh, and I don't think you qualify for Improved Critical until 8th.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

If he is human u are short a feat. Weapon trsining us not a feat, its a class feature. Also imp. crit is not available at 6th lvl.

Improved Crit required BAB +8. (I find no mention of Increased Crit).
Diehard has a prerequisite of Endurance.
So, remove the one feat, replace with the other, and that is fixed.

BAB +6/+1 +4Str +1WF +1GS +1WT = +13/+8
w/PA and FF 0/-2 = +13/+6

Damage 2d6 +[(4x1.5)=6]Str +1WT +1GS =2d6+8
w/PA +6 =2d6+14

So, you math is correct. I might switch out Cleaving Finish for Weapon Specialization, for an extra +2 damage per hit.

You do a fair amount of damage, if you can get to the bad guy. Also realize that your AC is going to be measly with a +1 Dex bonus, and no shield.

Thanks so much for the help!

I'm not sure how I borked that, teach me to post in a rush. It should have been:

Improved Critical > Improved Initiative
+
Diehard > Toughness

I guess I'm used to slower paced, low wealth/magic settings so this just seemed to be a lot.

Thanks again for your help everyone once again! >_<

I run no wealth/magic settings and I still expect a Fighter wielding a Greatsword to be dealing 2d6+15 at 6th (+6 Strength, +6 Power Attack, +2 Weapon Spec, +1 Weapon Training).

Meh, my 3rd level lance Hunter I'm running in PFS is doing 4d6+20 on a normal unbuffed charge, and I don't even have PA or Spirited Charge yet. So 2d6+14 at level 6 is nothing earth shattering, fighters can have nice things too you know.

tryinh to pick up the math u used.

i asum he somehow uses a large lance (1d8->2d6) so when he charges it goes to 4d6. but the weapon deal double damage at a charge, not the attack. so how do you do +20 and you don't even have power attack you say?
