Chat Tabs and who's online

I feel like I am a lone survivor in the realms of PFO. I feel we should be able to have a chat tab for companies. This would allow us to coordinate stuff better. I also would like a "who list" of some sort just so I know if someone is online I would like to chat with. I find it a pain to type "/w [insert name here], heya are you online?" just to see if anyone I know is online.

Please let me know what ya'all think.

A solid, working roster for companies and settlements wouldn't go amiss and I think the standard Friends list would also be of high demand. (And I kinda miss the global chat as the alpha population is kind of sparse,)

I agree on the friends list, and the gen chat was nice but I think its better to get used to it now instead of when EE hits. It's kinda hard for me to really know who is on because I'm in Emerald Lodge area and just to run to TK or RG, its a LONG jaunt.

p.s how do you add the goblin squad member thingy after your name.

I am pretty sure the Goblin Squad Member thing just appeared, when I linked my kickstarter account (used to make the pledge) to my forum account using the Pledge Manager that has since been closed.

Goblin squad was assigned to accounts identified as kickstarter backers. If you are one, you could send a note to the GW customer service email. Which is find and link but I'm a phone. There's a contact listed in a drop-down-on-hover on the gw site.

A Company/Settlement Tab would be nice. I'm a little bit apprehensive about a "Who is Online" feature. If any type of "Who is Online" feature is implemented, I would like there to be a "Shadow" feature that would allow a person to remain undetected on any list that can be turned off and on as needed.

Is there someone you are hiding from?

Anywho, a friends list that shows when people are on/off line would suffice for me on the lines of that.

A friends list would be nice and perhaps a company/Settlement chat/list. But I'm not entierly sure about that.

Absolutely. I'll sometimes be an assassin, sometimes a spy, and a few other "shadowy" things I have up my sleeve. :P

So long as it doesn't say 'where' you are, it should be okay.

I think we need several more types of chats.

In a world, like Golarion, that is so rich in magic, I believe we could pull of several types of chats fine. We need:

Company Chat
Settlement Chat
Regional Chat
Alliance Chat

I don't think we need an online list for anything, but I think if we had the sign on/off for Company Chat, that would be acceptable.

Regional Chat, would be like a mini version of the world chat system, except it would encompass about 14x14 sections of the map.

These would be the settlements in the North West:
New Daggermark, Iron Gauntlet, Hammerforge, Terra Firma, Talonguard, Callambea, Stoneroot Glade, Guardheim, Tavernhold, Alderwag, Ozem's Vigil

These would be the settlements in the North East:
Golgotha, Auroral, Kreuz Bernstein, Aragon, Freevale, Blackfeather Keep, Forgeholm

These would be the settlements in the South East:
Emerald Lodge, Blackwatch, Hammerfall, Blackwood Glade, Keeper's Pass, Phaeros, Brighthaven

These would be the Settlements in the South West:
Deadman's Glen, Canis Castrum, Hope's End, Sunholm, High Road, Doomhammer, Riverbank, Dagedai

Might as well have global chat if you are going to go to that extent.

I think it will be fine how it is, with the addition of Company/Settlement chat. Maybe a Friend's list.

All I really care about is that ALL channels appear in Chat and have a shortcut command to access them (ie /p, /c for company, etc. ). I really do not want to switch between multiple windows constantly.

Anyone know if there is a Hex chat shortcut? I've tried /h, /s (shout), and /y (yell). No beans.

Slightly expanding Cheatle's point of Golarion's abundance of magic - what about adding in items that characters could craft that would allow long distance communication? An attractive draw for a company would be the ability to give these out to members to allow them to stay in contact with everyone else.

That shouldn't be needed. Even with no Global chat it would kill the game if they did not put in at least Company chat. If players feel like there aren't many folks playing, they have less fun and stop playing. This dwindles the player base down. Communication is a huge part of what makes an MMO.

GW isn't ignoring Company and Settlement chat. It was even added in the mock up of the crafting screen done months ago.

You'd think so, but not really.

That makes good sense. Personally I loved it the first time I logged on and found myself out in the wilderness, completely alone and realizing the danger I was in surrounded by ogres and mad priests. But the thrill brought on by the heightened immersion was rather quickly replaced with loneliness and an unfortunate feeling of tedium involved in running for long distances with little goal but a destination and hopes I might run into another actual person.

Maybe a Pathfinder Society specific device for new players and those not associated with a company or settlement to provide an in-game ability and reason for country-wide communication would be a good addition without breaking immersion?
