Cleric Channel question

I read the rules and this makes little sense to me, why is channel energy tied to a clerics charisma score instead of Wisdom - the clerics main prerequisite score? Everything else on a cleric is tied to wisdom, why this unusual twist?

Because it replaced Turn Undead as a class feature, and Turn Undead was based on Cha.
