how much do cipher rings made of platinum cost?

So here's an idea

1. Get a familiar. Say, a crab.
2. Buy some platinum cipher rings for XX gp

Now, cipher rings are made out of wood, and cost 10gp for two. The platinum rings you need for shield companion cost 50gp.

3. Use alchemical glue to stick one of the rings to your crab. Don't glue the cipher bits shut while you're at it.
4. Write a chalk message in code somewhere where bright young adventurers can find it.
5. Have your familiar go find these adventurers (preferably while they're staring at your coded chalk message).

So, how much do platinum cipher rings cost?

While it is certainly possible to make wearable jewelry type cipher rings (send 10 boxtops to...), the one's in the ACG are more likely Alberti style cipher wheels, since no one thought of cipher rings until the 19th (maybe 20th even) century. That said there is nothing particularly difficult about making cipher rings and 60G for a pair should be fine - pay more if you want something fancy like having the letters engraved instead of painted.

I agree. Special features like "False Jewelry" or "Poison Pill Ring" are usually +X gp, so I'd consider "Cipher Ring" to add 10gp to the cost of any ring.

I also don't know what cipher rings are, but judged solely by what is said by others in this thread, it doesn't seem like it would be gamebreaking in any way or form to allow the two to be combined as long as you pay full price for both.
