Zanzeti, the generalist medium who kindof wants to feel like a spellcaster, traveled to Mendev in order to prove a trio of Pathfinders' innocence. Accompanying him were a bard (archivist) 2/oracle 1, a telekineticist 1, a mesmerist 1 (maybe 2?), an occultist 2 (even named Harry Dresden), and a pair of tiefling mediums in the level 2-3 range.

Much like having a bunch of bards with weird archetypes or a gaggle of clerics with different domains, a trio of mediums can be really amusing. Quickly coming to understand that there was an investigation afoot with possible trouble close behind, Medium 1 seanced The Hidden Truth, Medium 2 seanced The Beating (her usual schtick), and Zanzeti decided that today was a good day to have a chat with The Unicorn.

Although the telekineticist seemed hell-bent on getting us all arrested on charges of witchcraft, we managed to perform a pretty clean investigation. The occultist and bard/oracle were in their comfort zone with an investigation, and the medium trifecta was made of so much Bluff that we were able to score a lot of "points" in the adventure. The Unicorn's shared seance bonus to aid another checks proved invaluable in the extended non-combat encounter.

When combat did break out, I used the trance ability to turn into an aid another beast, but by the time my turn rolled around again, combat was already over. That's one of the painful bits about a self-buff that takes my whole turn, as it doesn't even provide the medium an opportunity to set himself up for a more impressive second round.

Overall it was a very fun game. The interaction of Zanzeti meeting another medium helped in getting a sense of how he views the spirit relationship, and the scenario gave him lots of non-combat opportunities to shine. Kudos to the GM for finding interesting ways to express the outcome of augury when performed with several Harrow cards (without using a lot of game time, too).

In what may seem a large coincidence , I also played Medea in a game of Scars of the Third Crusade last weekend with an archivist/loracle, kineticist, occultist, mesmerist, and two other mediums (including Medea's sister Zatara). Despite channeling the Hidden Truth, Medea did just fine in combat, and the bonus to all skills helped out, though I did often calculate the number without only to add "Oh wait no, it's 1 higher". Thanks to the third medium using Unicorn, we had a bunch of successful aid anothers (from shared seance). I realized that if we had been level 5, we would have been granting six seance boons to the party. That could have been pretty fantastic.

Rolls...nope, neither of us unlocked anything. Maybe Linda will post about her medium game this weekend.

As it turns out, I also played a Scars of the Third Crusade game with my medium, two other mediums, and archivist/loracle, kineticist, occultist, and a mesmerist. Shock!

First off, our GM, Louis, was amazing. I look forward to playing at his tables in the future. My fellow players weren't half bad either. I left the table thinking its time to become more active in my local lodge.

Scars is not a super-combat heavy scenario. As John said, our medium's social skills served us well for the investigation, and led to many fun and interesting moments. Bluff served us particularly well since two of us were tieflings in Mendev. Awkward...

I used the beating for the whole scenario. The two other mediums had the party support covered, so I wanted to be good at smashing face. I played up the compulsion of dissolution of self as a tidy way to step out of the spotlight, since I've run this scenario before. I LOVE the compulsions. Is it strange that my favorite thing about the class may not be mechanical? The roleplaying potential makes this class so compelling to me. (That pun's for you, Mark.)

At any rate, the beating's seance power didn't come up much in this scenario, since we were a 7 player table, but I did manage to hit something two turns in a row. My damage output was quite respectable.

The unicorn medium was helpful so many times--mostly it was his seance boon that did the trick. It's a lot easier to get an 8 to aid another than to get a 10. His +3 aid anothers were always welcome too. The hidden truth medium helped us find, well, hidden stuff. Our team was good enough at finding things not to need the hidden truth's free passive check this time.

The occultist Harry Dresden introduced himself as an investigator. He was fun to play with, but I got a bit distracted by his references to the Dresden Files and wasn't paying as much attention to what his character was doing mechanically. He did well at investigating. Between the occultist, the loracle, and the hidden truth medium, we found everything that could be found.

The kinetist caused us a bit of trouble with his tendency to rely on his "only social skill", Intimidate. We had to smooth some things over with bluff. He only ended up making one attack in the scenario, because of things that would be spoilers, but he took out the thing he hit.

The mesmerist player called himself "the adequate", and talked about having played a PFS game before where everything was immune to mind effecting and it was frustrating. He got taken out in the first fight, but in the final fight he stared and got off a color spray on the enemy. The enemy failed the save by the stare penalty, and the hidden truth medium skewered it. He agreed after that fight to consider switching his title to "more than adequate".

Mark, do I unlock something?

As Invisible Castle now shows, you did unlock something!
