What do you do with banned PFS characters?

I'm somewhat new to Pathfinder, been playing for about a year. A friend who played a long time ago created a vivisectionist alchemist when they were PFS legal, claiming they were legal for a short time, but are now banned according to the additional resources page. What does the person do with the character and where do I find this information? Thanks!

As I understand it, if there is a change that invalidates a character, you can generally rebuild it. Check the guide for the specifics. Usually, when you then bring that character to an event you can ask the GM to "sign off" on it.

Unless I'm missing something, the guide talks about rebuilding classes/prestige classes, but doesn't say anything about rebuilding archetypes. Would the player use the same rules?

From the blog describing the original banning of the archetype, posted here:

Pathfinder Society Blog wrote:

You may rebuild any class levels affected, to levels of other classes as necessary. (For example, if you have a 10th-level character with one level of rogue and nine levels of the synthesist summoner archetype, you may rebuild the nine summoner levels into any other class or another summoner archetype).

You may retrain any feats that directly apply to the changes above as necessary.
You may sell affected equipment for the full price paid when you purchased them (as listed on past Chronicle sheets).
