how to be Roland

can someone help me out....I'd like to build a martial who can replicate everything Roland the paladin pulled off.

Play a Paladin. Boom.

Seriously, the Paladin class is based off of the Song of Roland characters. If you don't want Spellcasting there's either the Temple Champion Archetype or Warrior of Holy Light Archetype.

I think you'd also need to (re)create Durandal and the oliphant.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

It's kind of the wrong universe what with the magic and all... I mean, other than those "clocks" the Arabs create with their wicked conjuration magic.

First you need to multiclass/gesalt with Investigator(maybe Sleuth) in order to increase your crime solving abilities, and of course you're going to need a dwarf Bard/Druid in order to sing your theme song.

...No wait that's Roamin the Paladin sorry about that.

I would say you definitely need some Barbarian levels in there, to really capture Roland's character.

So, you're going to need a friendly GM, to let that one slide.

cools, so I could knock down mountains, hurdle several ton cannons across a lake and pitch cows like baseballs?

Not really - Bloodrager does exactly that, but without the alignment restriction.

Paladin 20/Mythic Champion 10. You need Mighty Hurler three times. If you can convince your GM to let you treat a cow or a cannon as a rock, you're set on those as long as they're Large or smaller. If you can get Enlarge Person easily (ideally Permanently), then Huge or smaller.

You're boned on mountains.

Of course, if you want to pull off everything the /actual/ Roland pulled off, not the blown-up version the poem is about... play a Fighter. A suboptimal one.

I'm also not seeing anything about Roland throwing cannons around in the actual Song of Roland. That would be very interesting since cannons hadn't found their way to Europe when it was written. Perhaps you should specify who you're talking about.

He's talking about Roland the Samurai.. you know since Samurai split canons in half with their katanas. :)

I might be thinking of another western hero on the cannon part, but I thought Roland was the one who did it, I know the guy knocked down a damn mountain in the attempt to break his sword.

Just a huge rock. ^_^
Seriously: Temple Champion paladin with the Rage subdomain/Bloodrider - Primalist - Untouchable Rager bloodrager, Arcane bloodline/Mythic Champion, and you have your Song of Roland/Orlando Furioso character all right. ^_^

a Super smiting, super raging, super smashing paladin who is nigh-invulnerable to a magic user....damn. Now, I wonder which rage powers would work best? Now I'm wondering if there is a way I could swap out paladin for cavalier....probably not.

also, do spell resistance/moral bonuses stack?

and would it be pushing if I asked to swap out the "Barbarian" part of the rage domain for "blood rager"?
