Advanced Hex vs. Major Hex?

Sooo... I'm reading the new Hex Rods and I sort of have to scratch my head.

The Limitations say "(...)uses a hex (but not an advanced hex or grand hex)" in every Hex Rod.

Grand Hexes, thats fine. Those are the 18th level+ hexes, right? But what are the "advanced hex" things? Are they meant to be Major Hexes?

And on another note:
If they are, is there a Possibility to make normal and Grand Rods? You know, like with the Metamagic Rods?
