Pathfinder Rim Jaegers

Advice

Grand Lodge

I'm Gming a Pathfinder Rim one-shot soon. One of my players wants to ride in on a Clockwork Dragon. The character just needs to drive/fight with the construct, not build it. I need ideas on Classes/Races/Etx. Characters are 20th level with all 18s for stats, and pretty much any items they want. Any ideas? Thanks!

Take a look at the scenario Before the Dawn 2: Rescue at Azlant Ridge. You get to play with something that's a lot like a jaeger in that scenario.

I found this a at a used book store and it it seems easy to convert and logical. It even divides mecha into levels of technological advancement and covers tropes like combining to form one huge mecha. I highly recommend it.

That said, Ride and Fly are logical choices for controlling a clockwork dragon. Together they seem to cover most bases and checks. If you want to go nuts, use the asian races like Tengu and Kitsune. Aside from the Falco/Starfox jokes they surprisingly flesh out giant robot tropes.

Giant Robots are probably benefited the most by Fighters. This depends on the rules you use but aside from skills like Ride and Fly the thing that transfers the most to your mecha are combat feats. Casting spells from in a metal casing is troublesome and some abilities that a lot of classes have apply to their own stats. If mechs "know" your feats the only ones relevant are combat feats and can be devastating in the hands of a mecha.

I recently played that. Went into the scenario with no knowledge of it, and when my GFs bard

passed out after leaving the tomb, I was freaking out. She then rolled two crits on the King Kong champion on the first round she engaged.
It turned out to be one the most awesome moment I have had in PFS.

First, I'd suggest checking out the Technology Guide. The Iron Priest archetype may be useful?

It doesn't sound like there's any particular synergy between the "jaeger" and the character. If you're not house-ruling overlap of abilities (using the character's stats/abilities for things like attack rolls or special attacks), and it's centered around using the dragon, then either some sort of caster that can boost it or a class that can "bond" with it, like a cavalier (if that's possible).

It would seem like an Iron Priest with Quicken spellcasting and the Artifice domain would be a good start?
