Defeating enemy Ships

Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

Just to make sure.

Checks against enemy ships are non-combat checks correct?

The only way a check can be a combat check is if "combat" is given as a choice (or is the only choice) for the check to defeat and you choose it.

Ships also aren't banes.

Thank you all. I was playing correctly, but had an uneasy feeling I was getting it wrong.

Don't forget your structural damage when you fail... and the sad sad tale of woe as all your plunder floats away.

I was in a bit of a pickle actually. I Drew Pirate Hunting third card in the Press-Ganged scenario.

So, not only was I at the mercy of whichever character's turn it was to face the enemy vessel, but I had very few cards to stave off structural damage if they didn't make their check (which was likely)

Firstly Feiya failed her check by 5, which wrecked our ship. (losing our 1 plunder card, a potion of heroism no less)

Damiel crafted successfully to fix our ship, but had to face the Man's Promise once more and failed, but this time I was able to cover the damage with cards.

Then Jirelle was able, with the help of a Besmaran Priest, to see off the enemy interloper and claim some booty.
