So I've been looking for something like this, best i've found was the shaman nature spirit. But I can't find a way to get that at an..... acceptable level.
Now hear me out, An animal companion familiar is not all that powerful... unless you build for it.
What am I trying to build? Well something where I stack sneak attack and share spells on my animal. For all I care the thing can be a house cat.
I want me an animal familiar, and by seventh level. Anyone got ideas?
And NO dm will not allow it as a houserule, his current ruling is "Anything on d20pfsrd" which is kind of nyer but meh

A spirit wizard and shaman can do it but only at high level.
16th Level!
As for not being really powerful, I disagree. Back in 3.5 I did a Druid / Transmuter / Arcane Hierophant combo that gave you a full animal companion / familiar and it was devastating. I suspect they took the option out of Pathfinder because it was so good.
Though I must admit that I too, long for an AC/Familiar...

Here's your problem:
A familiar is an animal chosen by a spellcaster to aid him in his study of magic. It retains the appearance, Hit Dice, base attack bonus, base save bonuses, skills, and feats of the normal animal it once was, but is now a magical beast for the purpose of effects that depend on its type. Only a normal, unmodified animal may become a familiar. An animal companion cannot also function as a familiar.
Now, there's -some- shenanigans you can try to pull over your DM. Assuming you had an animal companion (think 4 levels of cavalier with the half orc beastrial mount feat and the Horse Master feat, as an example), a tenth level Beast-Bonded Witch could have her familiar take over your animal companion's body, though the lack of feats would be sub optimal. But you'd end up with a familiar in an animal companion's body.
Same sort of thing can happen while having your familiar use UMD, but using a 5th level scroll frequently will become... spendy, not to mention the need for the familiar to be able to use scrolls.

Also specific beats general, look at the shaman's nature spirit.
Special note: The Spirit Summoner might be able to end up with both an eidolon and an animal companion, again at high level.

Hmm, I've seen these along with what you can do with the beast bonded witch, I'm curious about that legendary item...
I've been curious if you could use it with diabolist though, the imp companion doesn't have the text stating you can't make it a familiar, and an imp is a legal improved familiar.
That's one for the rules board though I'd imagine

I found a way to combine legendary item (mythic), familiar, and animal companion. He is a god beast familiar with nearly unlimited HD, immune to HP dmg, and can only be destroyed as an artifact.
My goal is to find out how to weasel eidolon in there.
ll there's a feat that'll give you one evolution point per time selected to your familiar
My DM decided that was too weak for the concept, and made it so the first time it gave one, second time it gave two, third time it gave three,
Spend all ten of your standard feats on it and you'll have 55 evolution points, but that'd be taking it a little crazy.

It's nice to take it once with a psuedodragon. 10 reach on the tail attack is fantastic.
