Moving to CHINA!

Been off the grid for a bit, and here is why:
---
I have accepted a new position as Lead Narrative Designer for a video game company starting this month, and with the production timeline for the alpha release butted up against GenCon I will not be able to attend.

Actually, the timing is not the real reason as is the location. I am moving to China.

New FTP web3D MMO called City of Steam. Think Jules Verne's Lord of the Rings. (SO much Pulp!!! yeah, i am a bit excited.)
Alpha release is in mid July! Sign up!

FYI: one of the reasons i got the gig was that i have been running Paizo/Pathfinder and Pathfinder Society games since your Alpha release 4+ years back. And i will be running Pathfinder games for the company on sundays!

All the best,
Hope to see you all again in GenCon, PAX, or PaizoCon in the future!

Expect me when you see me,

What part of China?

If you haven't lived there before you are in for an 'interesting time' :). Its not like the US media portrays it in some ways (from the life NORMALLY seen as a foreign employee).

All in all it can be very pleasant.

I travel to China regularly on business so you never know if we may be in the same city at the same time and possibly a game.

I recommend trying to find an 'xpat' webforum for the city you'll be living in... they are pretty commonly available and they offer an initial potential support network of fellow xpats and English speaking locals and later a potential source of finding fellow gamers.

On another note - post here if you are having issues understanding the local work culture - something very frustrating for xpats.

forgot to mention.

Xiamen, China. :)

Google/Yahoo Xiamen Xpat.

I don't generally get down that way... good news is you arent (relative) that far from HK... where they do have ppl who enjoy rpgs and where there are a few gaming stores located.

I also STRONGLY recommend you check out a site called TaoBao when you get there - you can get some card and boardgames very cheaply there even the new ones are not badly priced compared to US. Just make sure you order ZhengBan (Authentic) or YingWen Ban (English Edition) where you have concerns on language as there is a LOT of Chinese translated games out there.

At least you're going to be in a city. I'm all the way out in the middle of nowhere in Hunan.

Yes, I'm curious too why you are in Hunan. I love good human interest stories.

Yea, I'm teaching English.

Fair enough... I did my stint as an English teacher in Beijing (also did some volunteer English/missionary work in Taiwan) and now I bounce around Dalian/Guangzhou/Sydney on business for my company every few months.

Yeah. finding it hard to find ANY table top RPG stores in Xiamen.
ordering online may be the only way.
