My partner and I are brand new to the game and are in the process of creating some characters for a PFS group. I own only the Core and the Advanced Character Guide.
My partner's character concept involves having a dragon companion that attacks above all else, and then to be a healer/buffer. I assume that the only thing close to having a dragon companion are the small dragons you can get with the Improved Familiar feat. What I'm not sure about is what her class options are for both having a viable familiar and being a viable healer. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The problem with your partner's concept is that the real dragons you can get to follow you aren't really built to attack above all else. The Faerie Dragons and Pseudodragons you can get as familiars are more made to sneak around and deliver poison or touch attacks.
If she is willing to compromise a little, a Druid with a Monitor Lizard or Dinosaur Animal companion could feel a pretty Draconic, and also be a good healer.
If she doesn't want to give up having a real dragon, I'd say a Witch who takes improved familiar and Healing Hexes and spells would work reasonably well.

Ummm, its really not too doable IMO, at least not well.
If she wants a dragon go with a Summoner. Summoners aren't healers though.
If she wants to heal she probably wants to be a life oracle.
Since both those don't want to multiclass she can't do both well, and would suffer for trying to do so.
Have her build one of each!
