Advanced Class Guide animal companion feats and cavaliers

Evolved Companion and Spirit's Gift are two new feats in the ACG that can modify animal companions.

The question involves if these feats are legal AND/OR "harmless/balanced" enough to apply to a cavalier's mount.
Thoughts on the legality or balancing of this?
Was it most likely an intended feature of the feat to not list the Mount class feature?

A Cavalier Mount behaves as an Animal Companion so yes, it can be used according to RAW.

As for legality, well that's up to your GM, if you mean for PFS, no it isn't legal because Evolved Companion and Spirit's Gift are not PFS legal.

Fair enough, it's for my girlfriend's cavalier for a 1shot run of We Be Goblins Too! she's running a level 3 goblin cavalier with a Goblin Dog mount for it, the upleveled level 1 goblin cavalier she used in the prequel and wondered if it was an option.

The DM ended up OKing it but it just made me curious if this was intended or not.
I can see why PFS might be a bit antsy about it, it seems quite strong being able to give a mount DR5/Adamantine, a flightspeed 5, enhanced natural attacks, fire immunity or enhanced natural armor etc etc at the price of 1 or 2 feats.

Some of those evolutions aren't available with this feat. It specifically says that each time you select the feat you pick a 1 point evolution. You can't select the feat twice and take a 2 point evolution.

Things like giving the Mount Evolution or Basic Magic are probably what really got it banned in PFS. With the Mount Evolution you are even giving a Horse 6 tricks at the cost of a single feat. Additionally, you can do the same with a Large enough Snake or even a Giant Wasp without needing to increase their intelligence.

Reach and Pounce are what got it banned in PFS, IMHO.
