The Technic League's crimes

Iron Gods

So there's a player in the Iron Gods game I'm running who was formerly a member of the Technic League. The player has left me to decide what exactly made him leave the organization, but he said to make sure it was entirely because he discovered quickly that the Technic League is capable of truly atrocious acts of cruelty.

I really want to up this a notch. I'm trying to figure out just exactly what horrible thing his character could have been involved in. And I don't want it to just be "he burned down a town" or "slaughtered people by the dozen", because that doesn't sound like the Technic League. You can say that with orc warbands or cultists of Rovagug.

So I need ideas! Exactly what horrible, despicable, tear-jerker inducing actions could an organization of arcansists who seek to dominate through otherworldly tech do that would make them easy applicants for crimes against humanity? Something that is comparable to Stalin's Great Purge, or what the ISIS is currently doing in the Middle East, but with a science-fantasy twist, with an emphasis on the science part?

The player isn't especially concerned with the sensitivity of the material, and the group as a whole is fairly flexible on R-rated content, but I don't want anything that would make the party truly uncomfortable.

If any of you are familiar with Fullmetal Alchemist, then let me say that the level of horribleness of "what has science done?" I'm trying to figure out is on the level of the ultimate fate of the character Nina.

Excerpt from a book
In attempting to merge machinery with flesh, the Technic League conducted dozens of tests over the course of decades before stumbling upon the solution. As a result of some of these tests, you'll sometimes encounter a full grown man with a tiny, baby-sized mechanical arm sprouting from a puckered scar of a shoulder walking down the street in Starfall. Most of these subjects are dead now, but hushed stories on the streets say that there were entire dormitories of these surgical experiments.

This is, of course, not canon. Just helping out with my first idea. I'm all for people not liking the Technic League.

What is the players class or general outline? Is he more brains or brawn?

A gunslinger with the techslinger archetype. He's not especially smart but his proficiency with technological firearms definitely got the League's attention. His character wholeheartedly believed in the League's supposed mission of "knowledge at any cost and didn't bat an eye at the atrocities he was a part of, until a particular incident (the one I'm brainstorming) eventually jolted his conscience and caused him to leave the organization for good.

Ohhh this gave me an idea.

-As a sort of lubricant for the body for cybernetics, the League came up with a solution that increased a person's ability to withstand more cybernetics. The chief ingredient in this potion is spinal fluid, harvested from dozens of people. Age is irrelevant. Perhaps the character personally witnessed the method of spinal fluid extraction, perhaps from someone he knew.

Shadow Lodge

Read Reign of Stars for some really good evil ideas... It is quite eye-opening...

Ok cool, Umm lets see.... How about he was responsible for obtaining android "Samples" for League experimentation.Everything was going well, he was the best at what he did and was payed handsomely for it. Until the day he captured a women android. During the weeks it took him to get her back to Starfall from whatever remote location she was they formed a bond. And against his better judgement he turned her in to his superiors at the end of it all. After a few weeks of him starting to doubt himself and all he stood for She shows up at his door horribly disfigured and mutated and he has to end her suffering.

I was reading something about androffan once having child sized androids, androids don't age, so the kids don't grow.

So my sick twisted plot is, the character was involved in whoring out a pod of child-androids the technic league discovered, as prostitutes to the sick-rich-and famous of starfall…..

I seriously can't think of anything more despicable. so… a there you have it.

or maybe after a career of hunting androids he met with with the emotion feat?

For some reason that reminds me of Game of Thrones. No character in particular, just how...vile that show can get. And I love it!

All awesome ideas so far!

I currently have a PC whose father was in the Technic League and injected nanites into his wife's womb while she was pregnant. The PC was smuggled out by Khonnir and the PC, now an adult, is being pursued by his biological father just to see the extent of his experiment.

I just realized the idea I came up with is Atton's Backstory from kotor 2.

Maybe he was in charge of keeping prisoners in line that were eventually used in weapon testing. I am thinking, for instance, the scene from District 9 where Wickus is forced to test out different weapons using his alien hand, culminating in him having to use it on a live prawn.

So you mean, instead of a squid gun (b00000YAH!!) the technic league might be developing a halfling gun??

How many haflings can fit into a magazine? and what do you think their range is?

(and can my barbarian with body bludgeon take weapon focus halfling??)
