Violet Fungus Rot Ability Plant Shape (PFS)

Rules Questions

Dark Archive

Normally I am pretty good at figuring out what is rules legal and what is not, but this time I am stuck. My PFS druid is going to see some play soon and I may be pushing him up to levels where he gets access to plant shape, and I was looking at taking the violet fungus form.

The big question is, does rot transfer? Even though specific abilities don’t normally transfer, plant shape says that poison transfers, and rot is a “poison effect.” I have searched the forums and come up empty, although what little discussion I found supports rot transferring. Without the question being formally asked, I cannot trust the results of my search, and would like a more experienced opinion than my own on the issue.

As with all polymorph spells, plant shape spells out the exact abilities that are granted when you assume a plant form. The name of this particular ability, "Rot," is not on any of the lists of granted powers for plant shape, and thus you would not gain that ability if you plant shape into a violet fungus. It IS a poison effect, but it does not follow the standard rules for poison, and as such is not grandfathered in by the "poison" ability plant shape grants.

Unless your GM says otherwise, of course!
