Order of Vengeance Challenge

Rules Questions

So, the Cavalier Order of Vengeance is from People of the River (which I don't own). I'm not sure how to handle its challenge.

This bonus increases by +1 for every 4 levels the cavalier possesses.

What exactly is a creature's kind? Does that refer to creature Type? Faith? Political affiliation?

What is required to have encountered such a creature? A combat encounter? Social encounter? Observation? The PRD's definition of an encounter is pretty open-ended:

Seems to me that if you're in combat with a creature, you've encountered their kind in the past 24 hours; you've probably encountered them seconds ago!

So how do you think this challenge is intended to be handled?

Bump.

Based on the fluff, I'm guessing "encountered" means some kind of opposition - either social (e.g., harsh words exchanged), or combat.

But, if you fight two ogres in the same combat, do you get the bonus against the second one?

I'd say it's creature type. Not faith or alignment or nationality. Humanoid elven for example.

It's pretty clear it mentions creature, so that would be where I'd start.

As for the "does the first one count?" I'd say season to taste. I couldn't answer. Seems to me "kind" doesn't refer to specific, just one LIKE it. But it's order of vengeance, so the original should count too. So have a GM make the call.
