can someone explain oversized weapons tome?

Rules Questions

Howdy!

So could someone explain all the mechanics for oversized weapons?
I know its like minus 2 to all attack rolls, and the dice go up the table.
But does weight double? How about handednes?
Light becomes one handed right? One handes becomes 2. And you cant use a oversizes 2 handes without special abilities?
What ahout xbows?
Im asking mainly thinking of two things.
Oversized light weapons, like a dagger or kukri. Moslty for swashbuckler and slashing grace.

Secondly is if you can for oversized heavy or light crossbows?
Heavy is a big thing already I know. But im thinking monster hunter sized xbows and ammos.
Like oversized repeating heavy crossbow
Would the damage increase, what about reload speeds?

While im at it. Can a weapon cord or something be applied like a shoulder strap, like on a rifle in real life. So I can quick draw this weapon and drop it as a free action without leaving it on the floor?

Asking fora few build ideas, wo any input is great. Prob not pfs

Grand Lodge

Weight does double.

Handedness increases one step.

Crossbows are case by case.

Weapon Cords have been so nerfed, I can hardly find a use for them.

Thanks.

Well I know weapon cords dont work well now.
I was mostly thinking of a cord so the xbow hangs off me when not being wielded. So I can drop as a free action to fight but not leave it on the floor

Tho if bolt ace, could just whip hit.

Hello oversized slashing grace valid dagger, that ill jus call bowie knives.
Thats one fun swashbuckler build down. Flyin blade archetype.

Guess itll be up to gm on crossbow super sized. Not sure at what point too large for you rule would come up for crossbows.
Id love a bolt ace sniper with vital strikes and oversized xbow ala monster hunter

Slashing Grace does not work with the Dagger.

The Sibat works though.

If, you use oversized ,doesn't it change it to a
one handed slashing and piercing weapon?

Or is this one of those "it does change it, but doesn't change the official category so it won't count" kinda deals? which don't make alot of sense to me. It increasing handiness, affords it new abilities, (such as this over sized knife which is now a one-handed weapon, is now able to be two-handed as per one-handed weapon rules), and if you increased the size again for the -4 it would now have to be two-handed always.. No?

So.. why wouldn't the change in weapon category due to size not count for the purposes of feats and class abilities?

It is by far not a great deal and all, what with the negatives to hit, but it does give some pretty amusing ways to use some of the weapons I personally find cooler, with dex to damage, without having to use agile weapon property. And since slashing grace requires weapon focus, in the end I'm really just trading a -1, for dex to damage. Which I'm happy to trade for my cool weapon love.

Oh and on crossbows. they all say they can be used one handed , but at a negative. like -2?
So, I guess you could use a bigger version.. so I think you'd end up with -4? to shoot. no clue on reload, I guess same speed..

Grand Lodge

Indeed, the base weapon is still a light weapon.

A Bladebound Magus cannot choose a large dagger as a Blackblade, and you cannot choose a dagger for Slashing Grace.

I suppose you could use a large light crossbow at -4, but then, how would you load it?

yeah. I kinda imagine it would end up loading impossible or increase the step one per size. On the crossbow i mean. so probably light xbow which is a move action would become a standard, or maybe full action (likely standard I guess , for just one size bigger)

not to argue, but more because I don't see why it doesn't. where does it say that increase size stays the same base "weapon type" ?

Since it says that(see below from Ultimate combat's weapon section), how come it won't count as the new weapon category? it says that it's a determination of size in relation to the user, and how much effort it takes to use the weapon that determines the type.
Such as the example below about the small creature using a one handed weapon as a two handed weapon. Why would it reference the change if not because it interacts with class abilities, feats etc? So why couldn't a small sized blackblade magus, pick up a human sized knife and make it a black blade for them?
The penalty for different sized weapons are a different thing than handedness. and is originally listed in it's own specific paragraph, unrelated to the changing of handedness. (originally it fit between the two paragraphs, but I placed at bottom as it's unrelated to handed ness, but placed for completeness)

I bolded; and as a note, the eqiupment guide (that lists all the light weapons, one handed etc) is sized and written for medium sized creatures, it even denotes that small sized stuff is needed for smaller races.
"A weapon's size category isn't the same as its size as an object. In general, a light weapon is an object two size categories smaller than the wielder, a one-handed weapon is an object one size category smaller than the wielder, and a two-handed weapon is an object of the same size category as the wielder."

So this sets it's a relation to user size that determines what is what.

"The measure of how much effort it takes to use a weapon (whether the weapon is designated as a light, one-handed, or two-handed weapon for a particular wielder) is altered by one step for each size category of difference between the wielder's size and the size of the creature for which the weapon was designed. For example, a Small creature wields a Medium one-handed weapon as a two-handed weapon (it still takes the –2 penalty for using an inappropriately sized weapon). If a weapon's designation would be changed to something other than light, one-handed, or two-handed by this alteration, the creature can't wield the weapon at all."

This affirms that the weapon category (light, onehanded, two handed) is determined by the user.
So why wouldn't an knife made for a large creature, (which when used by a medium would count as a onehanded) be valid for that medium creatures class abilities and skills?

Inappropriately Sized Weapons: A creature can't make optimum use of a weapon that isn't properly sized for it. A cumulative –2 penalty applies on attack rolls for each size category of difference between the size of its intended wielder and the size of its actual wielder. If the creature isn't proficient with the weapon, a –4 nonproficiency penalty also applies.

Grand Lodge

You don't choose Weapon Focus(Large Dagger), you choose Weapon Focus(Dagger).

You also don't choose Slashing Grace(Large Dagger), and Slashing Grace(Dagger), is not a valid option.

Also, Slashing Grace specifically states the weapon must be appropriately sized for you.

Ah the appropriately sized bit in slashing grace set it cool thanks! I kept missing that detail. cool beans, bit sad but cool beans.
I'd hate to be a slashing grace user who loses his weapon for a round and gets shrunk haha.

Though a note, you don't have to take focus in large dagger, you take we on focus in a weapon your proficient with, and over-sized weapons are still the same proficiency weapon according to said section.

thanks a bundle!
