Risen Guard

Say my character was Osirion. Say he died and the Ruby Prince brought him back.

The Scarab Sages have had their political affiliation with Osirion and the Ruby Prince severed.

Am I allowed to join any faction other than the Scarab Sages with the Season 6 faction change up?

That... is a damn good question. I would say yes, absolutely, you may switch to another faction.

A better question is "Can Risen Guard still be taken by a Scarab Sages member?" I'm not familiar with how acquisition of old boons works.

From the guide:

Quote:
Liberty’s Edge faction PCs qualify for Andoran faction vanities and mission boons available in past seasons. Likewise, Dark Archive faction PCs qualify for Cheliax rewards, Scarab Sages as Osirion, The Exchange as Qadira, and Sovereign Court as Taldor. Without a boon that states otherwise, a PC cannot earn Sczarni vanities or boons.

So Risen Guard can definitely still be taken by a member of the Scarab Sages.

Awesome! That's a relief. I have a guy whose ultimate goal is to die in battle and join the Risen Guard.

Sadly he is a tank, and thus far has resisted being killed, despite his best efforts. He gets very, very angry if someone attacks his friends companions - not because he wants to protect them, but because he should be the one who gets to die in battle, not them!

I too thought it would be difficult to die in battle. Until I ran into a filthy Drow, who happened to think I was his Favored Enemy, had Bane arrows against me and Manyshot me through the eyes.

Tell him he needs to wear a red shirt. ;)

I don't believe that you can keep the Risen Guard with any faction OTHER than Scarab Sages.

"As a Risen Guard, you may use the honorific “the Risen” after your name. You gain a +2 bonus on Fortitude saves made against death effects and on saves made to prevent a negative level from becoming permanent. ***Once you gain this prestige award, you can never change your faction.***"

Since Osirion becomes Scarab Sages, that is not YOU changing your faction, but as I read this, if you are a Risen Guard you can ONLY be part of the Scarab Sages faction. If YOU change factions to something other than Scarab Sages, I would think that you must give up the Risen Guard title and the benefits.

Sorry from a story aspect this in no logical connection here. The Scarab Sages are now an independent body and only really connected there because thats where the Dragon was found etc. The Risen Guard are an elite group sworn to safeguard the life of the Ruby Prince (in this case). It makes no sense story wise why the Ruby Prince would have you brought back to life to aid the Scarab Sages.

TBH, I think ALL the pp vanities need to be looked at and change. You cannot change effectively all the factions and keep the same vanities.

Paths We choose spoiler and semi coherent justification:
The osirion government and the scarab sages made up quite a bit and are going to be on pretty friendly terms with similar goals. They're going to be working together, so the osirions might want to stay on good terms with them

Thanks BigNorse: I havnt even looked at the new Guide yet or seen any of the season 6 scenarios. On the face of it, it looked like with the move away from the alignment with Osirion that some of these vanities had been made story obsolete.
