How do I use multiple archetypes?

Rules Questions

I checked some threads, and it says that you can use multiple archetypes. So for example if I wanted a Monk, and wanted a Maneuver Master/Weapon Adept... how does that work? Do I choose which feats I want from either? How can I determine what I should take? Do I have to split Monk levels into each archetype?

Archetypes are not separate classes, you are still just one class, monk.

You replace your abilities that the archetype(s) specify with the abilities in that archetype. Example: Maneuver Master replaces the monk ability "Still Mind" with "Maneuver Defense".

You cannot have two archetypes that modify or replace the same ability. Maneuver Master and Weapon Adept are compatible since they do not modify or replace the same abilities.

Read ALL of the following

When an archetype includes multiple alternate class features, a character must take them all—often blocking the character from ever gaining certain standard class features, but replacing them with other options. All other class features of the base class that aren't mentioned among the alternate class features remain unchanged and are acquired normally when the character reaches the appropriate level, unless noted otherwise. A character who takes an alternate class feature does not count as having the class feature that was replaced for the purposes of meeting any requirements or prerequisites.

A character can take more than one archetype and garner additional alternate class features, but none of the alternate class features can replace or alter the same class feature from the base class as another alternate class feature. For example, a fighter could not be both an armor master and a brawler, since both archetypes replace the weapon training 1 class feature with something different.

If an archetype replaces a class feature that is part of a series of improvements or additions to a base ability (such as a fighter's weapon training or a ranger's favored enemy), the next time the character would gain that ability, it counts as the lower-level ability that was replaced by the archetype. In effect, all abilities in that series are delayed until the next time the class improves that ability. For example, if an archetype replaces a rogue's +2d6 sneak attack bonus at 3rd level, when she reaches 5th level and gains a sneak attack bonus, her sneak attack doesn't jump from +1d6 to +3d6—it improves to +2d6, just as if she had finally gained the increase at 3rd level. This adjustment continues for every level at which her sneak attack would improve, until at 19th level she has +9d6 instead of the +10d6 of a standard rogue.

You never split levels. It's all the same monk. You can only combine archetypes that don't replace the same ability. So the two you picked worked. But you couldn't be a maneuver master and a master of many styles since they both get rid of Flurry of Blows.

I don't understand what you're asking about feats. Or when you say to determine what you should take.

Maneuver Master and Weapon Adept are compatible since they do not modify or replace the same abilities.

So for example, I would get Perfect Strike, Weapon Focus/Specialization for free? Or do those replace bonus feats?

For example, how many feats would a Level 2 Maneuver Master/Weapon Adept Monk get?

1st Level:
1) Flurry of Maneuvers (Monk, Replaces Flurry of Blows)
2) Improved [Maneuver] (Maneuver Master Bonus via Monk Bonus Feat)
3) Perfect Strike (Weapon Adept - Replaces Stunning Fist)
4) Improved Unarmed Strike (Monk)

2nd Level:
4) Weapon Focus (Weapon Adept - Swaps Evasion)
5) Bonus Feat (Monk)

Ok. In doing this I think I solved my own question. You don't replace anything, you just get different feats instead of the base class ones. That makes sense. Thanks!

At level 1 you get Perfect Strike instead of Stunning Fist.

At level 2 you get Weapon Focus and at level 6 you get Weapon Specialization instead of Evasion.

You do not need to spend a monk's bonus feats to get these abilities, you are giving up things already.

1st Level:
1) Correct replacement (but this is not a feat).
2) Correct
3) Correct
4) Correct
Do not forget your normal first level feat and racial bonus feat (if any).

2nd Level:
5) (you called it 4) Correct
6) (you called it 5) Correct, this feat may also be any Improved [Combat Maneuver] feat as per your expanded bonus monk feat list.
