Hey all, i am brand new to this amazing game. I have two (what i feel are probably going to be dumb) questions. First, a friend that taught me how to play the game said that weapons after played do not have to be discarded. I couldn't find anything conclusive in the instructions, but i thought since it was played for combat it should be discarded like other cards are. Versus being able to keep weapons in my hand until i decide to use them for a 1d4 roll. Second, how does Valeros' power work when it comes to recharging weapons? Sorry for such silly questions i just want to make sure i am grasping this game correctly. Thanks in advance!

Welcome to PACG! Don't worry, there are no dumb questions. Pretty much everyone has questions when they start playing. The game feels so familiar to other things, but is so different, that it always leads to questions.
First, a friend that taught me how to play the game said that weapons after played do not have to be discarded. I couldn't find anything conclusive in the instructions, but i thought since it was played for combat it should be discarded like other cards are. I'm not sure I totally understand what you are asking here. You only have to do what the card requires you to. So, for example, if Kyra plays a Mace, which says:
For your combat check, reveal this card to roll your Strength or Melee die + 1d8; you may additionally discard this card to add another 1d4.
Kyra would get to roll her Melee die + 1d8 if she just reveals it. Or she can discards it to roll her Melee die + 1d8 + 1d4. She doesn't have to discard it, but if she only reveals it she doesn't get the extra 1d4. But if she only reveals it, she also has it in her hand still to use again. If she wants to add the 1d4, she does need to discard it to play it. So it is your choice how you play it. Just follow the action necessary.
Second, how does Valeros' power work when it comes to recharging weapons? Sorry for such silly questions i just want to make sure i am grasping this game correctly. Thanks in advance!
Valeros' power activates any time the directions on the weapon he is playing tell him to discard it. If he played that Mace, he could recharge it for Melee + 1d8 + 1d4. Or if he played a Shortbow to add 1d4 to a combat check at another location, he could recharge the Shortbow instead of discarding it. Or if he played a Glaive and failed the combat check, he could recharge the Glaive to reroll instead of discarding it. As long as the word on the weapon card says "discard" Valeros can act like it says "recharge" instead. His power doesn't activate if he discards a weapon to take damage. His power says he has to play the weapon. If he is discarding it for damage he isn't playing it, so no power.
You might find this guide helpful. But if you have any more questions, just ask. You'll find PACG has a very helpful community.

You aren't forced to discard weapons for combat, however most weapons let you choose to do so for a bonus die. Weapons will say "For your combat check REVEAL this card to roll your melee die + d8," for example. "Reveal" means that card exists in your hand, but it's not consumed for the power.
Your Valeros question ties in to your first. If Valeros chooses to discard a weapon for its additional die (or other powers, such as rerolling a failed check) he may recharge them (put them on the bottom of the deck instead).

Ok thanks! So simply put, weapons may remain in my hand indefinitely unless i use them for a bonus die. Valeros gets to use them for a bonus die but recharges instead of discard. Thanks! Got it.
When it comes to fighter type characters, for Harsk or Valeros, is it beneficial to cycle (recharge) your weapons to get those bigger hits or horde them and hold a couple in your hand?

You've got the right idea. Knowing how your character cycles your hand is probably the most important thing in the game. Obviously if you've got like a +3 Deathdealer weapon you want to keep it around, but especially with characters like Valeros, who have really small hand sizes and a lot of weapons/armor (when generally you don't want more than a couple of each), you have to aggressively keep your deck moving or you won't be able to draw your other important cards, like blessings. If you've got more than one weapon if in your hand, yeah, you generally want to get the extras out of there so your hand stays diverse.

Simply put, just read the card. If it says you just have to reveal it, then that's all you have to do. It never leaves your hand.
This is exactly right. Cards do what they say, and don't do what they don't say. If it says discard, you discard (except Valeros, because his card says to recharge certain discards). If it says reveal, reveal.
