A good morning so far. Both kids were in decent spirits. We got out the house pretty quickly. The drive to work was not bad. I heard one of my favorite songs on the radio. I've already had two cups of coffee.

Scarab Sages

Let's hope the day continues to be as cool.

One of my coworker's has been having a rough time of late. Someone mentioned that he's going through some personal issues, and I know the project also has hime stressed out.

I tried to cheer him up a bit yesterday by reminding him that, even though you may not always be able to see the sun, it's still shining.

Scarab Sages

Yeah, it's hokey. It's also true. And, I've come to realize it has become a part of the predominant philosophy of my life. Along with the idea everything that happens, happens for a reason.

Scarab Sages

There's also, of course, my unshakable belief that I live in the greatest country on the face of the planet. And, perhaps, in the history of human civilization.

Scarab Sages

Actually, it's more fact than belief. I'm sure other people might disagree, and it sucks for them to be wrong.

Scarab Sages

New episode of The Flash last night. Really fun to watch. Captain Cold and Heat Wave in a big (and very public) showdown in the streets with our hero!

I'm still geeking out about it a bit.

And next week it looks like they're going to introduce Pied Piper. Always a villain with a lot more potential than was ever plumbed, in my never really humble opinion.

Scarab Sages

There was also a new Supernatural. That one's getting tougher and tougher for me to keep an interest in. It's certainly showing its age. Getting a little long in the tooth, so to speak.

And the villains are starting to get stale.

Scarab Sages

Tickets purchased for a Friday showing of American Sniper at Alamo Drafthouse. I look forward to seeing the movie. Clint Eastwood is one of my favorite actor/directors, and I've really come to admire Bradley Cooper.

It does bum me out to see so many people willing to believe that Chris Kyle was a homicidal killer, but I just chalk it up their own pathetic ignorance (willful or not) or even more pathetic self-righteousness.

Scarab Sages

And that's about all I'll say about that.

Scarab Sages

Back to date night - Alamo Drafthouse is awesome! Dinner and a movie combined! Plus a really nice area and cool atmosphere.

Scarab Sages

Had a knock on the door during dinner time last night. It was some of the other new people in our neighborhood. They're putting on a "getting to know your neighbor" party, and wanted to invite us.

It's a nice gesture, and I'd really love to go, but they're setting it on a Monday night at 7:00. That's usually the time I'm giving the boy his bath and getting him ready for bed. Not the best time in the world.

Plus, they also mentioned the idea of trying to get a Bible Study group going. While I respect most people's religious beliefs, I hate when people attempt to recruit me to something like that.

Scarab Sages

Sooo....I don't know. We'll have to wait and see.

Scarab Sages

I do love the idea of getting to know more of my neighbors. Who knows what kind of hilarity will ensue?

As a veteran and former sniper in the army I to find it absolutely pathetic that these people talk about this and have no idea what they are talking about. I am NOT surprised about Michael Moore he always was an ass hat.

I did not know this about you. You have my thanks and gratitude for your service.

Happy Birthday, Robert E. Howard!

Well thank you Zombie I appreciate it. Although I do feel like I got the better end of the deal after all they did pay my way through college.

Well, I'll be starting in my new store Sunday. Hopefully all will be wel

Scarab Sages

All will be AWESOME, my brother! Just keep on trucking.

Scarab Sages

T.G.I.F.

Scarab Sages

I was in bed around 9 pm last night. This is highly unusual for me.

Scarab Sages

There's this lady here at work who sits across the hall from me. I think she's begun to notice my not-friendly attitude towards her. I can't help it though - every time I would speak with her, or hear a conversation between her and someone else, she always ended up talking bad about someone. It never failed. Usually, her ire was reserved for one of her daughter-in-laws. Occasionally her husband or sons. Sometimes even fellow co-workers.

I got tired of all the negativity.

Now, I'm simply cordial to her. Mostly, I try to just ignore her and go about my business.

Scarab Sages

The boy was being a downright little asswipe this morning. Eventually, I lost my temper and used cuss words.

Yeah, I know - "But Scott, you are well known for cussing like a sailor pretty much all the time." And this is true, to a degree.

However, I usually try to avoid the F-bomb and serious anger when speaking to my children. Today was....not like that.

Scarab Sages

I don't feel too bad, though. Sometimes, you gotta get mad.

Scarab Sages

Tonight is date night - American Sniper and dinner.

Scarab Sages

Godsdamned UPS! What a bunch of incompetent f~+%heads! Sometimes I'm amazed they are able to stay in business, but then I remember one of their lead competitors is the USPS.

Scarab Sages

Had an awesome date night with the wife. American Sniper was an awesome movie!

Scarab Sages

And despite that he didn't go to bed until almost 9 pm, and we disturbed his sleep around 10:30 to bring him home, the boy was still up by 6 am.

Scarab Sages

So now it's biscuit time.

Scarab Sages

We've also got what looks to be a beautiful weekend ahead of us: sunshine, warmer temps (in the 60s). Yep, gonna be a nice weekend.

Homemade Chinese food and Kraken rum. Yum!

Scarab Sages

Last night's dinner was chicken with a southwest rub, sautéed peppers and corn, all cooked up in the rotisserie. It came out well. Very delicious.

Scarab Sages

I am training the boy to react to strange (i.e. typical) behavior from his mother by pointing at her and saying "pod person".

This might make me a bad daddy.

Or a fun daddy. I'm good either way.

Scarab Sages

And now....breakfast.

Scarab Sages

Followed by hilarity ensuing.

Scarab Sages

Transferred some mead from the primary to the secondary fermenter last night. By my calculations, it's currently sitting at just over 14% ABV. Not bad.

Scarab Sages

Sadly, however, I broker my auto-siphon.

Gleefully, this shall necessitate a trip to the homebrew store.

Scarab Sages

Later today, for dinner, I shall smoke a pork roast. Not sure how I'm going to season it, yet. I'll think of something. Might go over to Lowe's later on and see if they have any Applewood. The HEB didn't have it yesterday.

Scarab Sages

It's a beautiful day here in Houston, most awesome of cities. Sunshiny, temps destined for the upper 60s.

Winter? What's that?

My last round of snow hit Texas, just not Houston.

I'm coming for you Zombie.

Scarab Sages

Hang on, I'll start shaking in a few minutes.

Scarab Sages

Or, I'll hang out on my back porch, with my smoker, cooking up some pork loin.

Scarab Sages

Which, by the way, turned out delicious.

Scarab Sages

Yes, the pork loin was yummy. First, I sliced two pockets into the top. I then shoved apple slices into the pockets and dribbled some honey one them. Next, I sprinkled the top generously with cinnamon.

Smoked it for a little over 3 hours @225 degF. Mmmmmmm....

Scarab Sages

To finish off the good weekend, I drank a couple of More Cowbell Double IPAs from Buffalo Bayou Brewing Co, right here in Houston.

Scarab Sages

And I re-watched the most recent episode of The Flash.

Scarab Sages

My work is done here. I'm needed elsewhere now.

Scarab Sages

Been a busy morning. I even missed the meeting I usually attend. It's all good though. It's a module fabrication meeting, and my module package lead was there.

I miss the whackness this place used to be. Before all the other a~+*@*@s showed up.
